I can't believe I'm actually answering this but here goes.  Simply put, its a chess match.  If the keeper simply stands there like a dope, and Messi slots one in the corner he looks like a jackass.  So, he's forced to try and pick a side.  giving him a good chance to make the save.  To counter this, players like Messi a few other elites have resorted to this sort of jump stop getting the keeper to commit to a side even if its a slight lean killing any momentum then the striker slots it in the corner where the keeper is not.  and softly I might add.  if you know your opponent can't stop it why risk a hard shot?

you realize most of these keepers are Lebrons size right?  and yet, Messi still scores.  I'm done with this interaction as I can already tell where its heading.  fine, you won't watch soccer again until 2026. how will the sport go on without you?  time will tell.

US soccer team. TOwens, KBryant, Deion sanders, Barry Sanders, Iverson, LJames, Hakeem Olajuwon as their goalkeeper, Thurman Thomas, Michael Irvin, Dominique Wilkins. That's all they need for their team. Other countries would never score. Hakeem olajuwon as a goalkeeper! Other countries would never score. That's reality.

And one small tidbit. Hakeem olajuwon played soccer. It was boring to him because it was too easy. So he quit, took up a harder sport with basketball.

 I dont watch much soccer but based on what I saw I was not overly impressed with Messi either. When you watch highlights of Pele, Mardonia, and even more recently Mbape they all seem more dynamic than Messi.

Imagine if Walter Payton or Tony Dorsett played soccer??? Do you think those guys would have been any good???? How about Doug Futie with a soccer ball? Do you think Tyreek Hill would be any good in soccer?? If those guys played soccer, Messi and Ronaldo would be no names in the soccer world. I can belittle other countries athletes, because they think these guys are great. Nope. They're only good because USA true athletes don't play soccer because it's a waste of their time if they played

United States soccer team. LeBron James goalie, Stephen Curry, Trea Turner, stefon diggs, Justin jefferson, Tyreek Hill, Ja Morant, CeDee Lamb, Deebo Samuel, actually,  any NBA basketball player. USA would never LOSE the game with this roster. They would never tie, they would never have penalty kicks. They would score 12 goals a game. And everyone knows I'm right. USA true athletes don't play soccer because it's a waste of time for them. Stephan Curry does not want to waste his time playing soccer.
