The last two times Argentina entered the World Cup as the reigning champion (1982 and 1990), they lost their opening match. Argentina is again the defending champion in 2026.

Means nothing really but just found it interesting.

After winning the World Cup, Argentina:

As defending champions in 1982, Argentina lost 1–0 to Belgium.
As defending champions in 1990, Argentina lost 1–0 to Cameroon in one of the biggest World Cup upsets ever.
