Fun bet: Portugal to win by exactly 1 goal, which gives you decent odds 

england/france, all the hype being around messi vs CR7 and Brazil blah blah blah……which means less pressure n expectation for lions, this england team very close to lift a trophy..on the other hand, don’t wanna talk much about france , they conceded a goal every single game this WC, well more or less just a one man soccer team ……..I hate picking team without good defense but one serious concern here, I usually loss when I make a pick on england…..

but I truly believe if england win against france, they’re gonna win the champ, since all remaining teams playing subpar defense(except Croatia)

 I thought England played pretty well. Just unfortunate  they couldn't get the win.

The issue is that France did not play well at all. Sure, most of that has a lot to do with the way England played but for the most part, they just never had any rhythm and their better players were fairly subdued.

To still find a way to win the game is what separates the best from the rest.

One suspects a couple of those French superstars are going to be unleashed against Morocco.

If it's a France v Argentina final . . . . France are world champs yet again.

regarding your thread title.   our "rule of thumb" when it gets ticky-tacky trying to figure whom is better is something like this. its not an exact science but how my melon works

- strikers get all the attention, can win you matches and get you there
- defense/GKs keep you from losing (aka extend to PKs) and get you there.
but if you want to lift the trophy? you better have an above average midfield. midfields win hardware. strikers are a dime a dozen at this level, give any of them space from 25 metres out and youre going to be in a heap of trouble.

behind every great striker, there was a midfielder feeding him. in front of every great backline there was a midfield whom understood positioning & cut off passing lanes. sadly, there are very few individuals around nowadays whom can do both at a high level. well if youre having problems separating teams? look at midfields first.
