Its well known many of the players wanted him to be the head coach, let alone in a assistant capacity. What players want and what they should get be two different things.
He was buddy, buddy with many of them. Not a hard task master and didn't install a strong work ethic. Or discipline, or fitness. Which is why the players wanted him to stay, they get it easy.
These factors are exactly what they have were lacking in their horror season, last season.
