No kidding. I know I look at it through Yankee football eyes, but way too much affiliation with TAB.

It's a simple matter of sponsorship. The TAB, CB whoever pays a lot of money to have their brand displayed and mentioned at various times during the call of a match.
The commentators have to mention it as part of the sponsorship agreement. It's fairly harmless because its all being played out in the comm box. The players have nothing to do with anything, they wouldn't even know who the fcuk is sponsoring the comp they're playing in.

No conspiracy thinking from my end, but none of the sports touch any gambling in any way in the States.
