If a ref bets on a game, they cannot 100% determine the result....They dont drop the balls, miss tackles etc etc...Rather, they can make it easier for there team to win and harder for the opp to win. They tilt the odds in their favour.
Like when the dogs played the titans earlier this year. The Dogs receved a penalty in the first 5 mins, then the Titans recieved 11 in a row. Including 1 just before half time where Josh Morris dropped, he then said to the ref , "are you serious", the ref penalised him. Ennis went up to the ref and asked said, he only said, "are you serious", the ref then said, "i didnt like the way he said it"....
The Titans scored that set....The Titans , who were at the bottom of the ladder at the time, playing very very bad football, were apparently PERFECT for 75 mins that game, PERFECT...
Thats all what you can do as a ref, bet, then make it harder for the opposition to win. It is not 100%, but overall, they will win.
Just like tonight, the Panthers were 5-1 penalties, it was 3-1, the panthers recieved 2 very very dubious penalties when they were behind by 8. The vid ref also denied a certain try to Manu. Again, imagine if a ref said to you, we are going to penalise the Warriors, give the panthers most decisions. You will put your money on the panthers. It wont win every time, but in the long term, you will win.
They just tilt the odds. Just like Tim Donaghy said. The refs cannot put the ball in the basket or play defense themselves, therefore, they cannot 100% determine the result. Rather, Donaghy bet on games based on the refs in the games and there tendencies. He said, he knew certain refs who hated Iverson, Rasheed Wallace etc. Donaghy said he knew that if Iverson drove the lane and got hacked, they wont send him to the line, or on defense, if it was a ticy tack touch, they would call a foul, etc etc...
Thats how they do it, thats called cheating.
