Without writing a 'war and peace' on Gallop's successes and downfalls, I will say that IMO he did a tremendously difficult job pretty well.

I am astounded he lasted 10 years in the position considering some of the neanderthals he had to deal with in sydney and the grillings he copped from sections of the media on a regular basis. He is definitely one very determined and tough professional.

are you kidding Jive? He was abysmal, one of the worst sporting administrators ever

He had the job 10 years. Is the game better today then it was 10 years ago? Watch a 2001 game on Fox Sports and answer that. Is the game in better shape? Did he negotiate one of the worst TV deals ever? The standard of referees has fallen under his watch (he appointed the referees bosses). He oversaw the 2 biggest salary cap breaches, weather it be by incompentance or turning a blind eye. He has handed control of the game to the player managers

Give me 5 positives he did for the game in 10 years.

No doubt Gallop failed with the TV rights deal last time.

9 pay $46m per year for free to air rights

gallop was told to sell the SOO and finals seperate to maximise return. Each Origin game and the GF were estimated at 10m each. Gallop refused. So Ch 9 basically get a Test match, the finals series less the GF, 3 games a week and get to dictate the draw for $6m

    Great work Gallop

As bloody fucking outsider Yank, with no real dog in the fight, other than wanting to grow League, especially with the younger generation and home grown fans who are willing to attend home games...........which I have pontificated upon.....

    Monday Night Football.

A second referee, which took some time to iron out.

Taking away a rorted championship from the cheating Storm.

    The Bulldogs, to.

I think the problem is with so many in League, is that they want all answers now, and I'm not even sure what the important questions are.

MNF - not a gallop innovation, but Fox Sports.

Second ref - good idea, but overall a failure. Refs still making the same number of mistakes. The video ref the same deal

Storm - how did he miss the rorting? A whisteleblower had to spell it out for the NRL. where is the promised investigation? Has anybody in the NRL been held accountable for the failure?

Bulldogs - missed it as well. Jacquelin Magney was the one who uncovered the whole thing. Once again, not one soul in the administration held accountable

And both the Storm and Bulldogs decisions were reactionary (like all his decisions). There was not a transparent investigation into who knew what and when. The final result may have been the same, but the process what amateurish and smelt of covering his own ass

I am not commenting on their commercial success, but their success in running rugby league in this country
