So many tries come directly from penalties. I tend to agree with you that the refs have swallowed their whistles for the past fortnight or so, and as a result you get games played in between the two 20 metre lines.
I have noticed that too.
Tonight, I saw markers who were never square, defenders twisting the ball-carrier around on the ground, etc.
When these things are let go, the game becomes an arm wrestle rather than a contest to see who can convert their penalties into points.
Once it became an arm wrestle, the Tigers didn't have the stomach for it.
