The NRL loses cred as a legit league. 3 of the last 9 premiers have been null and voided. That's a 1/3 FAIL rate.
League is now a tweener sport between Union and the WWF.
If they come out and say they have gone through (with a fine tooth comb) every other club's books before announcing this, then there's some legitimacy left to build on. If not, who knows who else has cheated.

But besides Israel Folau they were able to retain three of the most sought after players in the game - Slater, Inglis and Smith, AND re-sign Cooper Cronk while they were at it.
Compare that to the number of players Brisbane has had to let go in recent years. Sure none of them as big in status or paypacket as that Storm trio but when you add them all up the Broncos have watched more $$$ walk out their doors than the Storm have.
How is it that Brisbane just couldn't compete with Canterbury, Souths, the AFL ect when it came to keeping Hunt, Hannant, Ennis, Stagg, Taylor, Boyd, Eastwood, Berrigan, Civonacieva ect, yet Melbourne had no troubles keeping Inglis, Slater, Smith and Cronk all fat and giggly ?

If this proves out to be the case, then league should just back off and find some middle ground compromise.

Just sit back and wait until this proposed NRL commission takes over the running of the competition. Thats when we'll see the beginning of the end to this fcuking nonsense of players having to be paid way under their market value.

Look, I didn't know shit about the insides or nuances of the league or behind the scenes a few years back, but even I could tell the salary cap was way too constrictive.
I take it the players don't have a union?

the players have a union, but they're still bound by the rules of the competition they play in.
