NRL will be fine if they change the structure, and put somebody with half a clue in charge (e.g me )

The next TV rights, if negotiated corrrectly, should be at least double and the funds should stop the exodus of players

Well the broadcast deal is up for negotiation in 2012, lets hope you're on the mark Second, presently $500mill over six years, an additional $500mill in the coffers would definitely assist

A good start imo would be shortening the reg season to no more than 20 games, representative games as stand-alone weeked fixtures.

The NRL needs a completely fresh approach in terms of the body that runs the game and the people involved in running it. Open the way for marquee players to earn however much they can by way of third party payments and we might stem the flow of players leaving the code to play elsewhere.

but the dickheads in charge won;t negotiate correctly. NRL outrates the AFL on free-to-air in Australia. AFL wins in capital cities, which is all we hear about, but the NRL need to take into account the Hunter, Gold Coast, Wollongong/south Coast, Sunshine Coast etc.

If you can tell Ch 7 and Ch 10 that you can get more viewers then the AFL for 3/4 of the price they will jump at it

The NRL need to read this article by Roy Masters

I'm for that, but they won't do it.

They need to quit playing so many games at Olympic stadium - too many empty seats on TV EVERY week - something the NFL learned decades ago. Besides, actual home games are better for the fans.

They need to create a sort of north/south division for better rivalries. Playing a basically round robin schedule  X 2 dilutes this.

And get rid of Friday Night, and with 2 matches to boot. There is too much leisure activities to contend with on Fridays, especially when compared to Monday. This isn't even close.

The powers that be thought the NFL was insane for starting Monday Night Football, but as there was a void to fill, it was an easy one. It's an institution, now.

Agree with some of your comments Norse, but gifting Friday Night Football to the AFL? Can't agree on that front, many social activities involve drinking establishments which show sport.

You're not gifting it to the AFL in the long run, this is where the NRL has to bite the proverbial bullet.

    Think of it like this.

You're stretching out the NRL week in 4 viewing days. It is NOT an event to watch NRL on TV. A bandwagon fan that misses Friday or Saturday KNOWS they can catch Sunday. Or Monday. A fan of his/her team is more likely to watch a 2nd and third game in a row, but not when they have a choice between 4 days.

The NRL needs to constrict the viewing days - make it an event. Events over 4 days for any occasion is a rarity. Let the AFL fight against Friday night leasure events alone long term. Get those bandwagon fans coming over on the other nights/days.

And when you have two matches running at the same time, give highlights and updates similar to radio.

There is a lot of things, and I know it's cultural, that the NRL doesn't get.

And what they are doing is obviously not working for long term club matches.

I've only been down here for 10 years, but nothing has changed, cept for the 2 refs I have been on about for a few years, and nevermind that one not working out yet
