I'm not taking anything away from Kaymer, they could probably play 4 more rounds and he would still be the winner. Congratulations to him, he was the best this week.
The course for starters looks like a poorly kept municipal course. They were calling it "rustic" on tv, is that what they call dead grass now, "rustic". Yeah, rustic sure... I have no problem with the greens being tough to hold and the conditions being difficult. They were selling it as an "eco friendly" because they don't have to water the garbage on the sides. Great, I'm happy for the environment but I like watching a U.S. Open played with rough.
It was painful watching that tournament and I'm a diehard golf viewer.

I want to agree but can't. Take Kaymer away and it would've been a legendary event. 1 guy stunk up the show. Don't hate the course or engineers. Kaymer kicked a s s. END OF STORY!

Sorry, but take Kaymer away and the person that didn't want to lose the most would've won. No way that would've been legendary. I can't remember more than 1 or 2 great shots today. I know it's hard but that was hard to watch today. Maybe it was because Kaymer had such a lead for 3 days in a row. I can't stand that announce team. I can take Miller, and the other ex-golfers but the other guy is brutal (his name slips me). My God, he's absolutely awful. CBS does such a better job of covering golf imo anyway, maybe that contributes to my disliking this years event...

I agree with KillerB...NBC absolutely murdered their coverage from the very beginning. They wanted Mickelson to be the main story, and when that didn't happen they didn't have a backup plan.
As far as the course, I enjoyed it. It's nice to see a course go back to its roots rather than just stretch it to 7,600 yards and have the rough be 5 inches long. I enjoyed watching the players attempt shots both successfully and unsuccessfully out of the "native areas". At Pinehurst you know that the greens are bowl shaped, and you know that certain shots aren't going to hold.
If Kaymer weren't running away with it, it would have been an absolutely sensational final round because guys would have been forced to try things they wouldn't normally try. Knowing that they were down 8 going into the back 9...it didn't matter.

Pinehurst isn't really that difficult. I'm not sure why 90% of the field was not able to shoot a lower score. Most of the scores were pathetic to say the least. I could have easily come close to Kaymer's score if I were playing in the tournament. I'm a scratch golfer at my local country club and I could have easily challenge Kaymer for the lead.

I liked it a lot. Nice to see something different than the usual 4" - 5" rough of death. Liked the old "rustic" look too. It was obviously a challenge with only 3 golfers under par.
Isn't that what a US Open is all about? Challenging, hard greens, etc....cream rises to the top? Best golfers on the planet struggling to make par?
Can't wait to see how it is for the women!!

By the way I think this type of golf is great for the players and terrible for viewing! No big numbers in play.
Relatively it was easy to make a bogey/par but hard to make a par/birdie. (Some will not understand what I am saying but most will)
Also the USGA screwed up and made Saturday the hard day. Almost every player interviewed commented on how hard the pins were Saturday I think it was Phil that called them the hardest he had ever seen collectively. Just my opinion. Sure wish I woulda played better at sectionals

i agree NoWorries...and like you I am a tournament golfer and a lower handicap player unlike I would assume StevenC.
You weren't going to see the doubles/triples as much but there also were very few eagles/easy birdies out there. It was a par course and was designed to be a par course. The fact that Kaymer knocked out a -9 is insane.
