Watching the US Open and so far Fox's foray into golf is a disaster. Buck and Norman are a horrible duo. Give me Nantz and Faldo all day, or at least the NBC crew. This while broadcast just seems so amateurish. I think I have seen one actual live shot in the last 45 minutes.

Joe Buck and Greg Norman are doing better than I thought...they are actually showing a decent amount of different players (when they show golf)...but I'm already sick of hearing about the course. True golf fans already knew what the course was going to be like

They are definitely struggling.........cutting away from shots too soon.........cameramen can't track a shot for $hit..........wrong audio for the hole they're showing.......missing key tee shots...........not good.

it's their first day and everyone is used to Nantz/Faldo and having Feherty and McCord. It's like having a seasoned symphony play a piece and then throwing a bunch of just assembled musicians and expecting them to sound just as good.

It's not perfect, but it's nice to actually be able to watch the entire tournament. Blows me away that there can be a golf tournament going on Thursday - Sunday, and there's only TV coverage part of the time.
Personally, I'm getting sick of the NBC coverage. Everything looks the same, and sounds the same. Their coverage is geared towards people 89 and older. I get all the tradition, and all that boring stuff, but golf has a lot of new, young, and in-shape players. It's time the coverage start gearing towards them and start getting a younger demographic. And NBC isn't going to attract the younger audience any time soon.

Disagree.
FOX dropped the ball at every turn. Camera shots were off center, or just completely off screen. The use of the telestrator was circa 1978. Commentary was drab and amateurish.
They rarely show players scores or yardage to hole as they approached their shot. Didn't show a leaderboard list beyond the top 5.
It was a step above public access, a complete dopeshow of a production. Give me the professionals at CBS or NBC every day of the week.

I like hearing Norman, very knowledgable and has been there and done it all, never been a fan of Buck, rest of Fox coverage is good, they've lucked out a little here, I can see this being an epic last day on a tough course and being on the west coast and the time zone difference will books their ratings.

I thought the morning coverage was weak,,,, there were too many interviews (especially with the mandatory female reporters quota)
I thought Buck and Norman were acceptable. Buck has to work on his golf knowledge, but he did call out Woods and his agent about not giving post round interviews to FOX,, and Norman has to know when to cut a thought short, but overall I can handle them.
You have to admit though, that FOX's use of shading the putting greens for undulation is pretty tight.

Buck and Norman were better overall than I expected...but everything else was terrible. Too many course documentaries...too many stupid mistakes with cameras and scores...too much use of shot tracker.
I do like the graphical appearance of the telecast though...efficient and smooth
Overall grade on their first day is a C-

I agree totally with your first two points, (how many broadcasting mullingins are you allowed?) but I really like the ball flight tracking. I will withhold total judgement until the end, I'm not in an uproar or anything,

Felt for Curt yesterday. He definitely seemed out of his element. But I am sure he will improve over yesterday. They will need a couple of years of doing this before they have it down. The hot chick interviewing works for me.

they showed more of the leaderboard often as far as what I saw. They just kept the top 5 or so on the screen constantly. Any break they took and various other times they went through a couple of pages. I agree about the yardage, they would flash up the hole, what par it was, players name and their overall score.

I apologize and retract this comment. I didn't realize I was watching FOX 360 yesterday. It was horrific. The actual coverage on FOX Sports 1 is actually pretty decent.
Sorry for the confusion. Just stay away from the 360 coverage, it blows.

I'm really glad to see this comment. I'm in the television industry, and I was wondering why I thought the coverage was ok, and someone else thought it was close to public access quality. Lol...you had me questioning my expertise in my own career.

100% agree about 360....amateurish...Brando/Brooks doing OK with the featured group and Brooks calling Woods swing change a " complete failure" is something you will never hear on CBS or NBC so I'm giving props to FOX for a nice first day,, especially the use of drones
