New to the thread...MUCH respect to Irish, Big D, Lefty, Hunted, Colonel, Patsgrl, Hawk, Scorp, Obes, and the others that I may have forgotten. I have been following now for about 3 years and it has been a pleasure capping along with each of you.
I do have a question which arose after this weekend's game between the Pats and the Jags. The OVER for my local was at 51. As you all know the final was 31-20. I had taken the OVER which I thought was a PUSH. When I went to square up he informed me that a PUSH on an OVER or UNDER play goes to the house along with the juice. Can anyone that uses locals confirm, if not, no worries?
Thanks and looking forward to future capping...
Welcome to the thread!!
I've never heard that before. A push is a push with my local and my online sports account. No juice paid or any money paid in that matter because you technically did not lose. I think some locals do charge juice but I've never heard of anyone counting a push as a loss and expecting you to pay up plus the juice.

Not only did he say that I lost the juice but that I actually lost the bet, even though it was a push. He explained by saying that since you are not fronting the money like in Vegas that all OVER or UNDER ties go to the local. I think something is wrong with this picture...

I could not have said it any better myself. That is exactly what he is trying to do. I just wanted to confirm with some others before pushing the issue.
Much thanks and any other input is much appreciated...

I'm sorry PatsGrl, it's nothing personal....No
one should be allowed to be as good as Brady and I just don't like
Harrison. I'm glad that you made it back to Texas safely. Hope you
still like me.
Not mad at you fish... I was just upset because it is ridiculous what I have been reading lately the
Patriots. I read everyday on this site or hear from people that this team is not a good team, and how Brady is not a good quarterback, and if he messes up once, everybody has to point it out and say something about it. The worst thing I hear all the time is how this New England team is a "fraud"..and when I ask them to elaborate, they give me an irrelevant answer. I mean come on, we are the only unbeaten team in the league at 17-0.. yes we cheated, got caught and paid for it but hey talent is what got them to where they are now.
Anyway, no worries fish. Apology accepted and I have nothing against you. I just had to get my 2 cents out there because man the comments I've been hearing lately have really been making me mad. But I know you didn't mean anything personally and don't worry we are still friends
And btw I did make it safely back to Texas. I spent the 3 hours
driving here listening to ESPN Radio and nearly got into a car wreck
when Romo threw that last pick. I was really hoping they would make it
to the Super Bowl and hopefully face my Pats if they win next week.

Makes good TV if this one goes over the total, maybe this is why the Pats game is mysteriously on early, not late, as the SD injury situation and weather factor make bettors like under early, then over in Green Bay (hey, they scored 42 against Seattle, right?). Look for the total to drop here as weather and defense rule the media next several days, then take the over late if you are so inclined.
14 point spread eerily reminiscent of Super Bowl where the Patriots were headed for a beating from my beloved Rams, then turned the tables. Pats win this game on paper 99 out of 100, but the Bolts can play, just ask Peyton.

hey plastikman a push is a lose everytime with my locals, sorry bout that bad break. but the play for this game is def the chargers. chargers are def gonna lose and its gonna be a pats and favre super bowl. but pats d has been pitiful lately. their corners never press, they play of of the wideouts 8 or 9 yrds everydown everywhere on the feild, slants in the middle of the feild are open constantly and the pats linebackers are gonna have a tough time with LT, Turner and especially sproiles outta the backfeild for passes. O and not to mention that either ellis hobbs or randal gay is going to have to play on vincent jackson whos 6'6" and 240lbs. Tons of pts scored in this game but brady will prove why he is the BEST qb and bring it home. chargers make a backdoor cover. as long as we get the storm here friday like they say and not sunday the above ishow it'll go down. teasing the giants too. gl and everyone enjoy

Think that your local is trying to stick it to you. The only time that a push loses is on a teaser. A push on any type of straight bet is just that, a PUSH and there should not be any vigorish. This is what half points are for. Hope you can work this out in your favor. If your local won't honor the push, I'd find another one or open an on line account somewhere. Good luck.

What a weekend got smacked by Seat & Colts hit 1/2 middle on Pats and giants bailed us out but this weekend. Farve and Brady made both teams look like stars although personally I thought the Pats defense was suspect and numerous holes can be exploited by San Diego. The line is right on but may fall some San Diego teased againsn't the total over depending on the numbers looks like an early possible side.

In gambling, one of the ten commandments of Hoyle is "KNOW THE GAME". Also know the rules first before placing your bet.
Good luck to you.
Anyway, the Patriots wins the game but won't cover the spread even with a banged up Chargers.
Like the over 47 1/2

I do think the Pats cover this one. They are not about to lose steam now. Remember they very easily shoulda-coulda covered on Saturday, were it not for a 35-yd FG missing by a foot and the normally sure-handed Welker dropping an easy 3rd down throw late in the game, which likely would have led to another TD instead of a FG.
Of course covers.com is littered with coulda-shoulda-wouldas. And so is my online betting account.
Weather will be a factor for the total for sure. I think SD will score some, but probably not more than 14, same as last time. Actually I think 38-14 is as good a prediction as any.
Do people realize that were it not for two dropped passes, Brady might have thrown the first "perfect game" ever in the NFL? And done it in the playoffs?

Have to agree with the consensus here, Pats just too much talent, playing at home, frigid weather, Chargers banged up and lets not forget that San Diego already took a "lickin" last time they met 38-14 with all their weapons. Not a pretty sight, 'LAY THE WOOD"

I like the Bolts...14.5 is a great motivator. Not that the Pats aren't able to put up numbers, but if the weather is windy and cold then I like the under as well.
Looking at a couple of things from their previous meeting...Cromartie wasn't even in the equation, a pro bowler who really only started the last 8 games of season. They pretty much dropped Merriman into coverage, which they won't do this time. No Pats coming off spygate (I mean did you see the way the Pats were hugging Belichick after that game, they were a little motivated). Not that an undefeated season isn't motivating but their motivation has remained relatively the same.
I also expect San Diego to run the ball, but not with LT. I expect LT to come out of the backfield but let's see how many carries Turner gets after this last performance (contract year btw). Lorenzo Neal may also make his return (day-to-day).
I know some of the Bolts are banged up, but if LT goes down in the first don't tell me the Pats would be happy to see Turner. Gates may not be a difference maker in the game, but he was well enough to play the go ahead drive in Indy.
San Diego O-line in not injured, San Diego +24 on turnover ratio, San Diego D playing..."lights out"
I won't go as far to say they will win outright, but 14 is too many.
Oh, and yes, I am near San Diego. Take my "homer" rhetoric for what it's worth. I respect all opinions, good luck all.

I think the pats cover here....at first glance 14 seems like a huge number but there are several glaring things here.
Rivers is really banged up and doubtfull for the game
LT is not going to be 100%
Gates is a shell of himself
Castillo busted up his ribs
the list goes on and on
Then you have the Pats on a mission, they beat a better team last week than the Chargers in their current condition and you know they will not overlook this team. I think they come out and jump all over this team early and load up 8-9 in the box making Volek beat them in the passing game......I know I said the same thing last week about the Colts Chargers game but quite simply the Colts didnt show up to play on Defense last week. That will not happen in New England. The weather could be a huge factor in the passing game and before betting the over under I will wait till just before gametime.
If the weather is clear
Pats 38
Chargers 21
Bad weather
Pats 28
Chargers 13

My local only does that with the OVER/UNDER bets but with the games he allows pushes. I guess you learn something new everyday.

I forgot to mention your name personally, I give you props as well.
After reading each of your posts in response to my question, I went to pay a visit to the "beloved" BOOK. I explained my point from a combination of the above posts and he actually gave me credit for the PUSH. However, we were in agreement that from this point forward on an OVER/UNDER push goes to the book. I said sounds good. The part he didn't realize is that I am done with him...

As for this game, does anyone feel that the key to the game, aside from possible Charger injuries, is the secondary play of the Chargers. We all know the Chargers D-line will get some pressure to Brady, but can the secondary keep up with the likes of Moss, Welker, Stallworth, and Gaffney? Unless the D-Line can bring constant pressure early and often I think Brady will pick them apart.
