sorry to have breal the news to you, but you working the service counter at burger king shouldnt be earning the same type of wages a cop earns. 2 entirely differnt jobs.

You know what some of the probelms with guys like you is? you have all become so accustomed to having water when you turn on your tap, having your garbage picked up, having your strrets plowed, having a cop or firefighter respond to you when you pickup the phone and dial 911, that you have forgotten that there are actually people working those jobs and thats why all those things are able to work for you.

You all just forgot that its actually people providing you all these services in society to you.

NO..once again I will explain our problem to you.

1.Collectively, we pay their salaries and benefits

2. We can't afford it anymore. The piggy bank is empty.

3. We understand that the solution to every governmental shortfall is not raising taxes. (outright theft at some point)

4.Cops and Firefighters are worth more than almost any public unoin jobs but he should have to pay a reasonable amount for his pension and benefits and should not have the ability to extort the taxpayer for more jingle.

5.I pay out of my pocket directly for my garbage collection. I pay property taxes for my police and fire protection. (have never had to call 911 but understand that could happen so I pay and don't complain) Side note...one of my former workmates had a workplace accident and had to be transported 5 miles to a hospital....HIS AMBULANCE BILL (CITY) WAS OVER $900.

6.I am sick of just about everything a union represents and just want them to go away since they claim to represent the middle class but fall way short of the working class percentagewise.

Hey cd, I've been in the printing industry for 30 years. Gimme a break about the Burger King speech.

Here's the news, I work for a "for profit" BUSINESS. Not an out of control government spending money that it doesn't have to overpay public employees.

Furthermore, I pay for water & trash removal. My streets never need plowing, I live in Phoenix. I pay property taxes, state taxes and 8.25% sales tax that should cover the cops and fireman showing up if their called and teachers salaries as well. You act like it's such a sacrifice to sit at a firehouse and get paid for it. Obviously it's a dangerous job when something happens but most of the time it's a joke.

Teacher works 9 months a year, ridiculous benefit package.

Apples and oranges is a good analogy.

And your right I should've got a job at the Government Printing Office, it's an incredibly better deal than the one I have. I get 6 paid holidays a year and earned vacation. No personal or sick time. How many do the public workers get?

so fire the 20% then...good luck with that. until then, the 80% will be held back and the taxpayer is on the hook for the bottom of the barrel

see bold: tough to do that when half the statehouses chose their special interest (unions) over the taxpayer (the population at large)...see Wisconsin, Indiana "flee-baggers" (i love that term)

Private companies are in business for one reason, to make the very most money they can make and if you actually sat down and thought about what can happen if all kinds of private companies take over public jobs.

On top of that do you really want to turn over law enforecment in the country to a private company? Do you really want a private company to have taht kind of power? Really sit down and think about that.

i work for a small engr firm, sort of like a small (and admittedly less smarter) intellectual ventures (but without the legal controversy).

maybe your govt leaders should have put a clause or 2 in the contract that stipulate certain conditions. i guess you just proved my point that they are dumb, so why do you want these ppl to be in charge?

His normal wage is 59,000 a year, he made 100,000 in overtime. Is the guy supposed to turn down the overtime? Would you turn down the overtime?

Its pretty clear if this guy is making that much in overtime, they dont have enough bus drivers on the job. Lets see pretty easy solution. Employees should be allowed to work all the overtime theya re asked to work, but that ovetime pay should never ever go towards their pensions. Workers pensions should always be based on base pay only and if the states would start doing that, there would be no pension shortfalls.

In closing, so what the guy made 159,000, he certainly didnt sit home and get sent a check, he had to work all those hours. And like i said if they dont want the guy making that much money, then hire more bus drivers, pretty easy fix.
