 The only avenue for peace is for Russia to go home, release all Ukrainians, keep the sanctions in place & punishment for their war crimes.

An American citizen, Willy Joseph Cancel, was killed fighting alongside Ukrainian forces in Ukraine, members of Cancel’s family confirmed to CNN.

The 22-year-old was working with a private military contracting company when he was killed on Monday. The company had sent him to Ukraine, and he was being paid while he was fighting there, Cancel’s mother, Rebecca Cabrera, told CNN.

Cancel, a former US Marine, according to his mother, signed up to work for the private military contracting company on top of his full-time job as a corrections officer in Tennessee shortly before the war in Ukraine broke out at the end of February, Cabrera said. When the war began, the company, according to Cabrera, was searching for contractors to fight in Ukraine and Cancel agreed to go, Cabrera said.

“He wanted to go over because he believed in what Ukraine was fighting for, and he wanted to be a part of it to contain it there so it didn’t come here, and that maybe our American soldiers wouldn’t have to be involved in it,” Cabrera told CNN in a phone interview

Russian General Director of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin has announced today that his country will pull out of the International Space Station (ISS). NASA has committed to the ISS mission through 2030. Without Russia's cooperation, Elon Musk's SpaceX will have to play crucial role for ISS' continuity. 

Study of the impact of long-duration space missions at the International Space Station on the astronaut microbiome

QuOver the course of a mission to the International Space Station (ISS) crew members are exposed to a number of stressors that can potentially alter the composition of their microbiomes and may have a negative impact on astronauts’ health. Here we investigated the impact of long-term space exploration on the microbiome of nine astronauts that spent six to twelve months in the ISS. We present evidence showing that the microbial communities of the gastrointestinal tract, skin, nose and tongue change during the space mission. The composition of the intestinal microbiota became more similar across astronauts in space, mostly due to a drop in the abundance of a few bacterial taxa, some of which were also correlated with changes in the cytokine profile of crewmembers. Alterations in the skin microbiome that might contribute to the high frequency of skin rashes/hypersensitivity episodes experienced by astronauts in space were also observed. The results from this study demonstrate that the composition of the astronauts’ microbiome is altered during space travel. NASA has selected crew members for a spaceflight simulation study in which a multinational crew of six people will live together in isolation for eight months in Moscow, Russia. The crew will experience various aspects of social isolation and confinement during the simulation. By studying crew interactions, health, and physiology during confinement, NASA researchers will advance development of methods and technologies to mitigate and counteract potential related problems on future spaceflight missions.

This simulation is one of a series that forms the Scientific International Research In a Unique terrestrial Station program, also known as SIRIUS. The studies take place in a ground-based analog facility called Nazemnyy Eksperimental’nyy Kompleks, or NEK, within the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow.
