I try and just post facts on this forum, but as a small business owner, I'm furious at Papa John's and this whole idea.
1. Papa Johns is not a small business.
2. Papa Johns made the decision to cut jobs, not the Government. Costs going up are something that every business owner has to deal with. If Papa John is really worried about the jobs he's cutting, he can take a pay cut, increase prices of pizzas or not give so much money to the Republican Campaigns. That's one of his little secrets...he's one of the top 10 donators to the Republican Campaign. If he simply cut his donations to politics, he could keep those employees working those hours. Also, he could buy less commercials during NFL games, or not give away 2 million pizzas, or not pay Peyton Manning to be the spokesguy for the company. Him saying he has to cut hours in order to save money is a complete sham.
3. What a brilliant business guy. He comes up with some crazy idea to take a political topic and get people to order pizzas. Make no mistake about it. This isn't about making a stand against health care. It's a ploy to get people to order pizzas. Guess where all the money goes from all the pizzas everyone orders on Friday. In his bank account...not the employees bank accounts.
4. Gotta love big business owners who can convince a portion of the population that they are being screwed by the system that allowed them to become successful business owners in the first place.
5. If you really want to make a stand against something in our political system, get more people to vote...get more involved in your local politics...or write emails/messages to your mayor/governor etc. Ordering pizza on Friday does nothing to change anyones opinion. It just gets Papa Johns more money.
600million net worth, 1.1 billion in revenue a year, and the cheap fuck is worried about obamacare. go sponser another bowl game ya cheap fuck! His pazza sucks anyway.

Yeah, I'm sure that the same company that gave away 23 cent pizza's in Cleveland and Akron a few years ago when people complained about them sponsoring the Wizards in the playoffs can't afford health care.
And there is this too... https://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-november-13-2012/post-democalyptic-world---whine-country---employee-benefits

Basketball star "Monster Mash" Jamal Mashburn, formerly of the Dallas Mavericks, owns 37 Papa John's franchies..
I wonder if he's one of the top 10 donators to the Republican Campaign...?
He did play in the first-ever all-star basketball game to raise funds for Obama's re-election campaign last Dec....Tickets for General Admission start at $100 and range up to $5,000 for courtside seats.
Still, if you wanted a courtside seat along with a shoot-around with the players and Kevin Love before the game, autograph session and dinner with the players after the game, you would have had to drop over $35,000.

Hello, anybody home??? MMost of these stores are owned by local franchises. Some of the franchise owners might have invested their life savings to pursue the American Dream !!!
Out of 3,500 stores (2,800 domestic and 700 international), 600 are corporate owned, and that benefits the entire brand.

maybe someone has seen the papa johns franchise agreement, but if not, i'll jsut guess that papa johns corporate could work out a way to rpovide some basic health care insurance to its employees if it wanted to. but my guess is it's easier to cry about obamacare on tv to sell more pizzas and say fuck you to the employees.

They could but for sure would not.
The franchise agreement pretty much says that you run your own business and the right to do business as Papa Johns which means paying them a royalty on sales and contribute a percentage to the marketing fund..and buy every single supply from the franchise, price according to the franchise, participate in all promotions and marketing from the franchise..
I dont see why anyone would spend the 200k or so to open one of these for the margins I am seeing from the corporate level.

according to the Kaiser Family Foundation, only 28% of employers offer health insurance to part time employees. I was surprised that it was even 28%.
of course, the other side is that health care is so damn expensive and the system is so screwed up that they certainly don't make it easy on businesses to provide for employees. but unfortunately, it's the employees who get the short end.
