All the rolling emoticons and silly remarks dont change reality.

Irregardless of it being Obama or Romney or Gore or whatever, it means nothing.

Bush took out a dictator who kept the religious fighting in check, once that happened it was game over.

Anything else you want to mutter is just a waste of time.

In hindsight I wish we wouldn't have gone in either but Lord Obama just isn't up to the task.

All Presidents have to clean up the mess their predecessor left behind the only difference is I hear "Bush's Fault" every damn time I take a breath. The world is a mess everywhere. It seems like every decision he makes, domestic or internationally, especially internationally, ends up being a clusterfukk.

    Deflection.

When President Hillary takes over in Jan 2017 is she going to blame Obama for Lybia, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, Iran, etc?

An objective analysis of foreign policy isn't your strong suit is it.

The simple reality is it doesn't matter who is President or how long we remain in Iraq unless we are going to both control its government and military.

Iraq is and never was, going to be a Democracy. We have been (and continue to) simply holding the ground until the next dictator comes along.

A country that is governed by a religious theocracy will never be a sustainable democracy. Blame Bush, Obama, it doesn't really matter. I said before that five years after we leave, Iraq would have a ruthless dictator and nothing I have seen changes that. We are now just delaying the inevitable.

Whether we should have removed SH is another matter. I have been clear that I don't fault Bush for that and the blunders occurred after he was gone.

You (and your ilk) should find those posts. It will be a good learning experience.

So a stabilizing military force (ala. S. KOREA,GERMANY, ITALY.JAPAN) would not have made ANYTHING different??

Dude, both of you MODS..SERIOUSLY need to get a clue to what is a "STABILIZING" force in this world......Guess you folks need to go back in your history books, if you EVER took the time to read them that is, "STRENGTH through  force"...ironically, "talk softly and carry a big stick".....we now carry a twig

POST #29 AND #31....our prescence ALONE would have, at least, delayed what's going on today Personally, I hope all this angers the POTUS (just alone for his legacy) enough to go in and bomb all this NEW terrorist off shoot and stop them in their tracks..

And DJ I totally agree we will never ever see the world as our idealogical counterparts EVER will. ..especially when  it comes to any HUMAN'S rights( especially WOMEN's..) This just might help TURN it around

So any "American presence" would NOT AVOID what's going on today?

Sure it would. We could 'occupy' the country, subject our troops to attacks daily, and know that the moment we leave, as history is our Bible, that the country will slide into dictatorship as it was under SH.

Makes you wonder why we would do that.

The other issue is our occupation in Iraq (and by occupation, I mean install a puppet goverment and control of the military) likely will create problems in the surrounding countries, not to mention that puppet government would rule insurgents with an iron fist, thereby creating more turmoil, more inurgents, and the likely actions of neighboring countries supporting the insurgents.

I personally do not think even if we went in heavy and settled there with a large presence that it would change the underlying issues.

There are two VERY antagonistic, confrontational groups of religious people living in the same area who have a long long history of killing the other under the guise of religious freedom and stopping oppression.

There is NO peaceful way of stopping this outside of dramatically forcing one group out, and even then the group forced out would still come back and try to attack the other.

That entire region is a mess. Anywhere there is a large percentage of TWO groups that will fight each other and want to wipe the other out, this will keep happening.

We cannot force democracy down their throats and half do this.. I really dont think there was a chance to succeed here from the start.

Now Wall, this is where I totally agree with you and where GW totally screwed up......what was, if any, exit strategy? BY light years, the most serious mistake of his presidency..

But on a more serious note......you can NEVER say this POTUS has ever slightly,  considered  the  ramnifications AND consequences of ALL  his decisions in this arena that leads  to today's TOTAL anarchy

I really feel this is  where a real leader needs to step up In the end we ALL just want

You should take your own advice and read the history again. Just like Vietnam except it's even worse, we didn't have a chance to win even with our Founding fathers combined.

They either don't want or ready for our "democracy" or whatever you want to call it and add a lot of religious craziness into the mix, you get a recipe for disaster.

I know Bush was the head of the state but I fault Cheney the most and that's one of the main reasons they had a fallout at the end.

Hello. McFly...where did I mention Vietnam

I am just reiterating the "peace" our military "presence" has greatly secured those folks.... and btw, I feel it may have  helped "toned" down this current religious "upheavel" from differing factions now  ... I understand some of this.........but we are talking about some serious TERRORIST organizations here

This is all BOH's decision(FAULT) not having that "whatever it's called" agreement....   fricken pitiful and extremely stupid...like all his laughable so-called foreign policy..

One thing for sure....Romney was dead on in the debates about this topic and Obama just shook it off.

Seems to me Romney's been right about a lot of things....just saying

No, you didn't mention Vietnam. I did because if you are so fond of history(by suggesting the need for the mods to go back to history books), you would have known we didn't have a chance from the get-go. Of course, Iraq was in a even worse situation than Vietnam and anyone should expect a different outcome?.  Even with a continuous occupation/presence, we wouldn't solve the chaos because we would not have cooperation from them.

So does this mean you are not able to make a determination that-

    A) Bush was president during both events
    B) Saddam was a dictator who kept religious factions in check
    C) Bush removed Saddam and the rest has been nothing but a mess
    D) The region was/is/will be a near impossible hot bed of religious fighting and that will never change.

What rungs are you missing? The one where you FORCE Obama into there somehow and place him as the blame?
