I remember a while back Club had a thread titled "Cheap Mail Order Brides from the Ukraine". I clicked on it and damnit if he wasn't bashing religion.

decent number of muslims in the ukraine, they aren't as promiscuous as the advertisements would have you believe.  if it's unbridled promiscuity you are looking for, it's the hardcore family values rightwing christian chicks you want.  try to get one who is mute.  you'll pay extra though.

as i understand it, and i'm far from a science expert, there are many types of scientific dating methods and carbon dating is limited because it can only be used to date rocks that are a million or so years old.  other radio-something methods must be used for other rocks.

Its like saying that because I was not alive for the civil war then therefore it must not have existed and all artifacts from the civil war are fakes to try to prove the theory that the civil war happened...

That's fine, but the artifacts exist along with numerous eyewitness accounts. They corroborate eachother. Much like Jesus in the New Testament.
 Believing we have the knowledge to accurately calculate the age of the Earth within a few million years (give or take a few million) is as ludicrous as believing it's only 6,000 years old (which Rubio never said) Rubio was simply and in my mind truthfully admitting that we don't really know the answer and never will. 
This is probably my least favorite CD thread. But he has taught us how it feels to be a victim of inaccurate, condensed, sensationalistic journalism.

Science is based on theories and evidence that supports the theory... in fact true scientific methodology is disprove the theory with the null hypothesis... carbon dating is the current theory based on current science... 500 years from now I would hope that we are not using the same theory based on the same science...

religion however has a history of doing exactly that...

There is a difference between insisting that science is correct and being weary of those that seek to merge church and state in their governing and policy like to making creationism and christian science as public school curriculum....  

its not necessarily what a person thinks, but how they think
