In a local restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie and I laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though he deserved it more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.

So basically you are a piece of shit. A server and anyone working in a restaurant makes BELOW minimum wage. They make their money on tips because they are not taxed. That is also the only reason their place of business can pay them below min wage. FYI that homeless person would never see a dime from tax credits/refunds/ whatever you want to call it. To the USA he doesn't exist and probably has no home address or form of ID to receive anything extra anyway.

I am glad you are telling everyone on covers you are a scumbag who is very discriminatory.

jpero - you missed the point.  Fish decided who was more deserving of his money by the same criteria that Obama does, Fish just lowered the economic threshold.
 
The principle is the same.

Obama wants to restore the 39% tax rate (the rate during the Clinton years) for families making over $250K a year and keep the rate at 36% for families under $250K a year....is that correct?

You are making this too complex.  The encounter described above illustrates the concept and the principle of wealth redistribution.
 
The homeless man didn't EARN the money, the waiter did, but instead of the waiter getting to keep and use the money he EARNED, the money was given to the homeless man.
 
Where is the incentive for either one?  The homeless man gets something for nothing and the waiter has his work not rewarded so he has no incentive to keep working.
 
If you agree in principle that this is not good for America then the rest is just haggling over price.

My apologies... you made it sound like you went out and did this.

I do not see it as the same thing because in this situation a non rich/wealthy person (someone who will not see their tax rate returned to previous levels) has decided to go give his tip to someone who would not receive anything. The waiter, himself, might be receiving some help from the Obama tax plan.

jpero....... we're talking about principles here. The principle is the same for everyone. Rich people put their pants on one leg at a time just like you and I do. 

Punishing success should NEVER happen.

if i can interject...there isnt enough money in the top 2% or whatever that is to pay for all of barry soetoro's plans. wealth and income are difference...you can amass wealth but only show that you make 100k a year. people at the top have the smartest accountants and money managers. obama will be turning the piggy bank upside down looking for pennies in two years.

my father in law owns two check cashing places for 10+ years. the business barely makes a profit but he has a new beemer every few years

he has no choice but to lower his threshold of wealthy if he sticks with his plan. of course he wont tell you that now...give him 60 votes in the senate and a san fran commie as Speaker and i would advise you to hide your wallet, transfer things offshore, look into UGMA plans, Uni-K's, any way you can incorporate yourself and lower your AGI

they are coming for you...im being serious. you may not think you're rich but you are in their eyes
also, your taxes will go up when he lets the Bush tax cuts expire in 2010. remember Barry is not lowering the marginal rate on the tax code...he is cutting checks from the wallets of the rich and calling them refundable tax credits or rebates. semantics maybe but in tax law semantics is everything

I am just trying to take this one step at a time....I am not looking for a scenario...just an answer to my question.
 
If your answer is that he will also raise the tax to 39% for those under $250K, then just say that....
 
And, if he does, since that was the rate pre-Bush, is that not OK?
 
I just want to look at individual tax structure first......I know that McCain was outraged at Bush's tax cut to 36% because he said that it severly penalized the middle class....So, why is it that Obama wanting to restore the pre-Bush level is wrong?

This is what i have been saying all along.  The middle class have been making up the tax money that the rich guys should have been paying all along.  The rate should have never been cut and even McCain agreed.  But now that he needs to win election McCain has changed his tune.

Sorry KOAJ, the middle class have had enough of paying while the rich get the tax breaks.

he is telling you that he will give everyone a tax cut but the top 5% or so...he isnt telling you that he's letting the Bush cuts expire in 2010 so everyone will have a few extra % tacked onto their tax bill

plus...he is not cutting taxes!!!!!!!!!!!! he is cutting checks, refundable rebates that 50% of americans arent funding yet somehow they are collecting on (sorry for the !...more emphasis than yelling)

re: McCain votes against the tax cut...if you cut taxes you have to cut spending...thats how it works in government b/c they are too stupid to manage their budget. bush didnt do that and spent even more. tax cuts always bring in high revenues and they did during the bush years...he and congress flushed most of that down the toilet

under obama all of your suppliers will have their taxes raised. they will pass that cost to their customers (you). you will either pass that cost to your customers or take the loss.

that is what tax hikes on businesses do. can your customers stomach tax hikes? can you handle making less money?

from 01-06, the top 1% has paid 33.8% of govt receipts to 39.4%. top 10% pays over 70% of govt receipts. bottom 50% pays 3%

heres the thing, if giving tax breaks to the rich created jobs, then i would be all for it.  But the truth is none of bush's tax cuts to the rich created jobs.  Companies still sent jobs overseas, while sucking up the tax breaks for their own personal selves.  Thats my problem with giving tax breaks to the rich.
If companies create jobs then they should remain at the 36 percent rate or even lower if possible, but if these companies arent creating jobs, then they dont deserve to have their rate cut.
You cant tell me thats not fair.
 
One other thing, please all you guys stop talking about cutting spending, its never ever going to happen.  No politician does it, so your wasting your time saying it over and over again.

using my link assume the middle class is the top 10% to top 50% of earners

they pay approximately 25-30% of government receipts. they get killed with inflation. they make enough to live but not enough to save and invest. btw a rock and a hard place

bottom 50% will be on government's teet while the middle class lives check to check and the top 10% does well

the effect of income redistribution is inflationary...you know who gets hurt the most? middle class. if they stay where they are they get hurt by inflation, if they move up they get whacked with a higher  tax bracket

You guys are getting too caught up in the details of how the tax code works and who pays what etc.
 
It's the principle that was illustrated in the story.  Either you agree with wealth redistribution or income redistributiion or you don't.
 
If you do then why stop at 250K, it won't be enough and soon the income limit wil drop.
 
If you don't then why do you even want the high income earners to be taxed?

cd - fair or not...if you can pay someone $12 a day to make sneakers or work in a call center thats a cost savings over paying someone here 45k + benefits. if im a shareholder, i want those jobs overseas to make more on my investment. a company answers to its shareholders and investors...thats it

is it the fault of the company that they need to cut costs to compete in a global marketplace?

would workers be better served retraining themselves and moving towards the service sector? those jobs are growing. we dont build things here anymore. build them in china or india for 1/4 the price

i would hope that going forward...any employer who lays someone off b/c of barry's tax hikes apologizes to the employee but tells them "I cannot raise prices on customers in a recession and I need to cut costs to maintain corporate profits after the large tax hike was passed:"

maybe then people will get it...they sure dont now

If you wear a sign of political affiliation at your workplace be prepared to take retribution in one form or another from those that support the other side.  The waiter should not have worn the tie at work.  I thought it happened just right.  If I was in a service industry I certainly would not do so.  In my profession it is not allowed and you better not have the wrong bumper sticker ANYWHERE.  There are thugs on both sides.
