Sooner...many thanks for the compliments about "how we disagree"...and our right to disagree is why we both need to be concerned about the next 4 years....
One piece of your post....Obama was not chosen for political reasons...he was "elected" to run for the presidency by registered voters. If someone was going to be "chosen" (in one of those backroom, cigar-smoke filled places), it would have been Hillary....Bill would have seen to that.
If you read my postings, you will see that I am not asking for any ideas/solutions from John McCain...frankly, I don't think that we are going to get much substantive info from either man in the next 46 days. I am, however, going to raise an issue that is "under the surface" and, frankly, is a touch issue....Intelligence.
I am not a college graduate, I dropped out and went into the Army in 1965 to serve....BUT, I am a strong believer in the fact that intelligence is imperative in a leader...and our national leader.
The President that we have had for the last 8 years was never the brightest bulb in the box...certainly Jeb was, and is, much sharper...as was the father, who I respected greatly from his days with the CIA. But George Bush Jr had immense likeability and, from his days at Yale to those in Texas, he surrounded himself with people that used that likeability....his ability to LEAD was questionable, his ability to analyze and grasp informations was questionable, his need to "shoot from the hip" was obvious.
When you look at the education of John McCain who see a young man who was close to failure...he attended the Naval Academy because his father and grandfather were Rear Admirals....but he was close to not graduating. Sarah Palin's educational foundation was worse....as anyone can see. Please understand, I am not being some leftwing eliteist with this....I just respect and believe that intelligent men and women are most important in roles of leadership...be it business or government...that affects our lives.
Barrack Obama's education, and the leadership he showed while in that phase of his life, placed him in the top 1% of his peers. We can discuss McCain's 26 years in Congress compared to Obama's political career and, of course, Obama is less experienced....
....BUT, as I stated above, I am more concerned about what each man WILL do and less concerned about WHAT they have done.
The three debates may give us a clue to what they will do...although, learning from the Kennedy/Nixon debates...it's usually style over substance on TV.
Sooner, I respect your feelings on government control; but for the next 4+ years, I would rather trust government than the private sector....we don't vote for the CEO of Bank of America or Prudential Insurance...we vote for the President of the United States...that is our right..and that is our only safeguard for our future and our children's future.
