Ugh. It does work. It works better than any other system ever tried. Why does American have the best standard of living on the planet? Why does it allow for the most middle class Americans to thrive? If you think its such a horrible system, you are fooling yourself into believing the rhetoric of pissed off libs.
firstly, The United States does not have the best standard of living on the planet. Find me a report that says otherwise to prove me wrong. "The Economst" has its own report you can quote, so does the UN human Development Fund,
secondly, capitalism does not like regulation. In a developed society with a large population base and workforce regulation is a neccesity.

Norway, Iceland, and Canada do not come close to providing the opportunities that the U.S. provides. No one is flocking to those nations - in contrast, people are coming over on rafts just for a shot at a piece of American pie.
Europe isn't being flooded with immigrants - legal and illegal?

Not anywhere near the influx in the U.S. And mostly due to the fact that more opportunities are present in the U.S.
Secondly, saying that capitalism "does not like regulation" is just nonsensical. Capitalism works perfectly well when regulated -as long as the regulation is necessary regulation and not one of control by the government. This country has prospered more than any other in the last 75 years due to the free market system.
