I'm just injecting plausibility & logic into what you've said. As far as the evidence, the lead detective didn't believe Z's account & says he believed that he should have been arrested & charged with manslaughter. But he was overruled by a state atty because he didn't think there was enough evidence at the time to get a conviction.
What I find interesting though, is why almost all of the righties here seemed to immediately side with Z & even his account of what happened. Why would that be when he was the 1 armed, stalking & persuing and then he did the killing? And his version should be taken as credible - why? And had it been a black guy that shot a white 1 under the same circumstances, I'd feel exactly the same way.
I actually was on T's side until I saw the Dateline piece on the incident on Sunday.
Some of the witness statements and reasonable thought process swayed me to the other side.

So why is the lead detective who investigated the case saying he believed that Z should have been arrested & charged with manslaughter? There was no corroboration on what happened right before the fight or about Z returning to his car. Only his word - why would anyone believe that when he's the one who could be charged with a capital crime & the only 1 who can dispute it is dead? What do you think he's going to say, lol

It looks like all this anger is misdirected.......
Geo.Zimmerman cannot arrest himself...
The Stanford police gave the evidence in the case and turned the case over to the State Attorney Norm Wolfinger...
It was his decision not to charge Zimmerman with manslaughter or some other crime...from the evidence or lack of..
This should have all start with the questioning of State prosecuter ..not left for every junior Perry Mason in America to consider all possibilities...and place blame one way or the other without out all the evidence and understanding of the law..

But there is corroboration regarding Z laying on his back and T straddling him. Why do you ignore that?
I don't believe for a minute that a scrawny guy like T could put Z down without the element of suprise. I also don't believe that Z went looking for a physical confrontation (A being that he felt he had to carry a gun in the first place and B. Knowing the gun could change possesion and possibly be used against him.)
Not saying it doesn't happen, but, little guys don't go around dropping big guys and breaking their nose without a sucker punch or somthing else.
Summary,
There is no evidence to suggest that Z attacked T.
There is such evidence that suggests T attacked Z.
T was straddling Z on the ground at some point.
There were screams for help that were heard and T would not need to scream for help if he is in the controlling position.
Cashin, other than subjective statements where have you pieced together possible events or evidence that substantiate your claims?
Paint me a picture based on actual known pieces of evidence. Please.

Well, all that says is they got into a fight & he had his nose broken. Not how the fight started or whether Z had actually turned around & was going back to his car or not. And even if he did & Martin hit him, is that grounds for Z to shoot & kill him? Hell, if I antagonized someone in a bar & he followed me out & punched me in the parking lot, could I just shoot & kill him under the Fla laws, then say I feared for my life & not be arrested or charged?

The first officer to arrive on the scene was Timothy Smith. Here’s his report:
As Smith arrived he was advised of the shots fired reports and that there was someone laying on the grass between 1231 Twin Trees Lane and 2821 Retreat View Circle. Smith walked between the buildings and saw Zimmerman standing there and Trayvon lying face down on the grass.

I've seen hundreds, if not thousands of investigative reports after shootings. Never have a seen one where the police refused to question the shooter, nor where no ballistic tests were conducted.
Never.

How many Motions to Suppress have you ever filed? Have you ever read a police handbook?
Officers at the scene are trained to question the suspect before arresting him or securing him in the police car when Miranda may kick in.
In this case, the officer at the scene stated specifically that he did not question Zimmerman. That is strange, especially considering the investigators that did found his story unconvincing. ![]()

You actually aren't far off. It certainly would not ballistics tests which would be based on the location of the wound, the direction, and the residue that would be left to show the distance between the shooter and the victim. ![]()

If Zimmerman truly wanted to make up a story why would he call for help? If you had the ordeal of making up a story, wouldnt you want to give yourself enough time to make the best, most believable story possible?
Another thing for all you CSI junkies...in those dumb ass CSI shows or action movies you always see a person holding another person with a gun and moving closer to them so that they are eventually so close that the person being held is now within easy arms reach of the gun. Then the person makes a quick move and knocks the gun away or somthing smoothe like that.
In real life pumkins, if you're holding someone at gunpoint, you are a moron if you move close enough to allow that person to put their hands on you. I've had a gun pulled on me by a robber before and he knew to stay 3 arms lengths away from me.
I always watch for that to happen in movies or TV shows and almost every time I see the holder upper move closer to the pointee, I know whats going to happen next.
I hope all of you are that smart but doubt it after seeing some of these ridiculous posts.

Why did the police want to arrest Zimmerman then and why did the lead investigator say his story didn't add up?
=================================
Well, we have a public statement by the prosecutor and the police chief (At the time, Police Chief Bill Lee cited the state’s “Stand Your Ground” law and stated publicly there was no probable cause to arrest Zimmerman based on the statute) versus an anonymous statement by "sources" that Zimmerman should be arrested.
And guess which one you believe?

Oh, and I found this. 2nd paragraph is especially touching in light of cd weighing in on legal matters of which he knows nothing.
A source with knowledge of the investigation into the shooting of Trayvon Martin tells theGrio that it was then Sanford police chief Bill Lee, along with Capt. Robert O'Connor, the investigations supervisor, who made the decision to release George Zimmerman on the night of February 26th, after consulting with State Attorney Norman Wolfinger -- in person.
Wolfinger's presence at the scene or at the police department in the night of a shooting would be unusual, according to the source. On a typical case, police contact the state attorney's office and speak with an on duty assistant state attorney; they either discuss the matter by phone or the on duty assistant state attorney comes to the crime scene - but rarely the state attorney him or herself.
==========================
So the supervisor of the lead investigator disagreed that Zimmerman should be arrested.
Interesting.
