Perhaps, I wasn't clear. My point was how divided the country was during NAM & we are divided again for similar reasons that being the government lying to us.
You're singing to the choir regarding marriages of returning soldiers. My father in law was a hardcore Gerry Ford Republican from Grand Rapids, MI. I didn't get married until I was 37 because I wasn't mentally fit to take care of a family. I was very hot tempered & learned of all the lies about how we weren't provided the resources needed to win the war. We were just fresh meat & nothing more. When you see a fellow soldier missing half of their face or the body of a rotting soldier punctured with punji sticks you never shake off those memories. Being part of the military that were the 1st to lose a war is a stigma it took years for me to come to terms with. As a returning soldier we were ostracized by society just like I ostracize MAGAS in today's world.
Last night, my little sister sent me a text to stay away from watching a new Netflix documentary named The Turning Point: The Vietnam War because she knows what will happen if I watched. It wouldn't be pretty!
