I noticed you didn’t dispute what I said.Probably because you can’t without making an ass of yourself. All you can do is make a trite remark and add aon the end.
Never argue with an idiot. He'll drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Sooner, are you just awakening from hibernation or what. You want to put the friggin Neo-Cons back in power in 2010. They have amassed 100% of our national debt since WW11 and you want them back in power to further bankrupt this nation. My God that was the main reason they were thrown out (among others) this time around. That is the single most uninformed post I have ever read in this forum and there have been plenty of them. Either go back into hibernation or read the U.S. Budget report. Why, anyone would want those wild borrow and spend lunatics back in power ever again is beyond me and thankfully the vast majority of our citizenry, at least those beyond an 8 th grade education.
As an aside, I made a post many months ago that the GOP base these days consisted almost entirely by the redneck ,billy southern and plains states and was immediately criticized by KOAJ and other Neo-Cons. A look at the electoral breakdown from yesterday shows exactly that. I rest my case.
Hugo, I totally agree with you. If you take a look at this electorial map, ir looks irronically much like the 1860 electorial map. In-case some of the less educated in this forum don't know, that was the election before the Civil War. Just looking at the current states that were states back then, McCain carried basically all the former slave states while Obama carried the same states Lincoln did execpt Obama carried DE and MD. Interesting, isn't it?

at least it is a good thing to have the world be happy with the US for a change... i guess that's the first change of the Obama administration...
What I said earlier about how America is the greatest country on Earth is not meant to be a shot at anyother country. Although I am proud of my country, I am not one of those who think that we can prosper without having ohter countries help us. Going at it alone leads to the Armed Forces being spread too thin. That was a major contributor to the fall of Rome, and we should learn from Rome's mistakes. After all, as far as power in the world goes, we are Rome right now!

Hugo - We've had this discussion about deficits and revenues before in this forum, I guess you missed it.
Congress passes spending bills, the Pres. can only sign or veto them.
Reagan - He had a democratic controlled congress. He did veto at least 1 budget proposal because of the level of spending in it.
Clinton - started with a dem congress and 2 years later hd a rep. congress. result, less spending lower deficits and eventually a surplus.
Bush - rep congress to start, spending went through the roof for the wars and economic stimulation bills and congressmen started buying votes. They got voted out and now we have a Dem congress.
1 Party rule is BAD for America. Not enough checks and balances, we need some budget hawk conservatives to counteract the tax and spend it all liberals.

Sooner, I see you tried to be non-parisian in your message. I commend you on that. It is hard to do, but you were not totally accurate on the Reagan discription. Spending went through the roof, not because of the Democrats, but mainly because of the Arms Race which heated up between us and the Soviets. It was a necessary evil, and it destroyed the Soviets. That coupled with the Reagan tax cuts of the 1980's are why the deficit was so high when Bush Sr. took office.
BTW, I do agree with your one party rule statement, but it is not totally necessary. I think, if Obama were to appoint a moderate Republican as Secretary of the Treasury and/or Secretary of Defense, he could maybe bring the two sides of the isle together. America is its strongest when we work together, and we sure need that now!

Sooner the last time I checked the Prez prepares the budget and Congress amends it or tweaks it however you want to phrase it.Also the Neo-Cons controlled both houses by large margins from 2000 to mid- January of 2007. The Dems controlled only the house from early 07 to now. The Senate is 49-49-2 and the Repubs filibustered at a record pace any meaningful economic or for that matter any other measure the Dems tried to pass in 07-08.
Please accept responsibility for failure when your people deserve it and I will do the same if Obama and the 111th congress screw that badly.

This has been quite the election. As retired military I hope his advisors lead him in the right direction. As the father of bi-racial children i'm glad that they were old enough to see history. As a Virginia voter i was disappointed that all local tv covered was the "it's not the color of his skin election" but each person generally said it's was the color of his skin that brought them out to vote. It is time for a change in america. It's been happening. Women will be president some day. I really didn't care for either running this year...but I will be supportive. It still my country until you take it from me. Soooooooooooooooooooooooo..........................
If you think Jerry Springer is a serious relationship counselor. Please don't vote.
If you think Roe vs. Wade is an argument between two guys on which is the fastest way to cross a river. Please don't vote.
If you think Korematsu vs. United States is the next opponent the U.S. Mens Soccer Team will be facing. Please don't vote.
If you think Little Boy and Fat Man is a new TV series or a nickname for a guy's private parts. Please don't vote.
If you think "No child left behind" applies to all children in the mall, theme parks and rest stops on the highway. Please don't vote.
If you think that a Fallopian tube is part of your TV. Please don't vote.
Remember folks we put a monkey into space in the late 1950's and brought it back safely to earth. Common sense is all it takes during an election .....not rocket science. The monkeys name was Sam.

Slimdaddy - I agree with you that spending is the problem. The reagasn tax cuts increased revenues to the treasury, follow the link and you'll see. The defecits are a result of overspending and in the last 20+ years both parties have been responsible for overspending.
Hugo - You don't pay enough attention to the budget process. The Pres. prepares a budget and sends it tp congress. Many times congress rejects it and considers it DOA. Per the constitution, spending bills originate in the House and are negotiated wit the Senate and then submitted to the President. All the Pres. can do is VETO or sign it, he cannot change it.
Therefore, lets give credit to the house republicans during Clintons term for submitting a budget the resultd in surpluses, and equally blame the democrats in the 80's and early 90's and the republicans in the early 2000's for sending budgets to the president that exceeded or revenues, tus increasing the defecit.

not bitter at all...disappointed but i understand mccain was a bad candidate who ran a bad campaign under a tarnished brand
im taking a wait and see with barry soetoro to see if he's a true consensus builder/centrist governor...seeing his chief of staff pick, i'm not encouraged. chicago native, partisan hack, pelosi confidant is not the way to make friends across the aisle (according to Paul Begala, not me)
fwiw - it will be fun to see how long the dems can get away with blaming others then they are in charge
in 18 months when we are still in recession, consumer slowdown, deflation, voters will be screaming for change again and if the GOP has fiscal conservatives leading the team then the congress will be thier's for the taking, if not, shame on them

First off, congrats to Obama & his camp - what a tremendous victory for them, the Democratic Party & the country as a whole while running one of the most effective campaigns in history & taking everything thrown at 'em & staying on the high road for the most part
Easy to understand the bitterness of some of the righties in here (Sarasota Slim, Straight Shooter, rick3117, SoonerFan, Wallstreet, etc) when your party is in shambles & the majority of the folks have felt deceived & abused by their admin for the last 8 years. Also, it has to be particularly galling to be slaughtered by the most liberal member in the senate & a young, inexperienced black guy who by many of their descriptions is a marxist empty suit who can't communicate without a teleprompter and will bring the economy to ruin
Maybe one day the Repub party will return to their roots & have more to offer the country than good economics for the wealthy & big corporations, so called family values and fear-based attack & smear campaigns. Would be good to see along with a legit & viable 3rd party. Despite the tremendous mandate & support in Congress that Obama has, I hope and think that like Clinton, he'll move more to the center & with realistic expectations, has a chance to be an outstanding President. He's got the right stuff in that regard though you can never predict events & he's going in with more serious probs on more fronts than anyone before him other than prob FDR & Lincoln before him. The economy sucks & prob get worse before it gets better and that would've been the case with either guy, but at least we've finally got someone at the helm that is very bright, wise beyond his years, tough, open & with good integrity & character.
Was incredible to see the scene at Grant Park, celebrations worldwide & of course another top-notch stirring speech by Obama. Interesting times - let the new day dawn & the fresh air in
