I agree with you on a bunch of things to reform govt (lobbyist, finance, whislte blower, campaign money etc) but I do take exception with grouping ALL 1%'s into a category of BAD people who control govt.
Yes, there are many from wallstreet and banks on there (yes those folks do control govt) but there are fair percenatge of doctors, lawyers, athletes etc. I can link some articles if you would like. I just dont like mass groupings of people and painting them all with same ugly brush.

By supporting propaganda like that I don't think you will ever understand. I try to always treat you with respect KOAJ because you have offered me the same, but it truly amazes me how you can not only believe that, but promote it.
All the spin in that article aside, I've said before the '1%' is a concept IMO more so than a strict separation of wealth along the 99/1 split.
As I've said before, you can have someone who is technically in the 1% (like Buffet) who speaks out against the inequality and corruption in the system and understands the need for serious reforms. This movement is not against him, more specifically he'd probably be embraced as part of the so-called '99%.'
This movement is about those in the '1%' who fight to maintain the status quo to protect their ever increasing wealth, power and influence over society. I believe I've made this point more succinctly in the past.

I would feel better if there were a sheet of laws that our politicians could look at .
you know.. that gave them some guidance on the things that they could or could not do, and maybe even go so far as to say that anything not on this sheet of paper is HANDS OFF. Meaning it is illegal to try to legislate things like marriage, and milk pasteurization unique.
I would also hope that this separated the power in such a way that there would not be one house of govt that was stronger than the next.
Maybe one or more of them could be involved when deciding to go to war.
I dont know, just brainstorming.

See the later portion of post #53
It's funny because the last time I made this point I believe it was very well said, I'd love to be able to dig it up. I just think it would be a bitch to find.

JESUS CHRIST STOP ACTING LIKE BUFFETT IS SOME HERO>
he is the biggest crony capitalist in the fucking nation you dimwits.
LINK + LINK <--------- (thanks China we made a killing this year Screwing the U.S. !!!)
Ok so forget Buffet I'm just trying to make a point
If you are the richest of the rich, but you agree that serious reforms are needed because of OBVIOUS REASONS, then this movement is not about you.
But if you are the richest of the rich, and you are fighting to maintain your power and hegemony then this movement is about you. We know there is a hidden 'ruler' class of extremely wealthy bankers, CEO's/corporate exec's etc. and lifetime politicians of the same stripe who control everything. That's what this is about. They are the "1%"
If you defend them, you might as well be part of the 1%.
If you agree with us, then you might as well be a 99%'er... regardless of wealth.

for every 1%'er I would gamble that there are 100000 99%'s that would switch spots in a heartbeat.
Greed my man, plain and simple greed
Are the bad 1'ers the wallstreet folks who have the govt in their pocket along with a handful of corps (a collection) who do the same?
I don't think you are understanding lords...
OR... you are suggesting that 1000000 people would like to become part of a hidden aristocracy bent stealing wealth out of the economy, limiting freedoms and installing only pro-business laws that solely benefit their corporate counterparts at come at the expense of ordinary people.

but to follow on with shared power one would assume shared wealth as well?
I feel like the riddler and I am not trying to be
I understand the income gap is widening but why is that?
1) Corps (I am talking the multinationals like GE, Mobil) have to satisfy wallstreet and hit their "numbers" for the shareholders (which do include many middle class people, 401K's etc) but not at the level that the top execs get. To do this they cut jobs, outsource jobs and dare I say cut corners.
2) We have less people with the entrepreneurial spirit? People wont take the risk and gamble it all?
I dont know....I am beat and need to get some quotes in before I go home....check back later
Good debate guys

so its more about shared power than shared wealth

Problem is that the bad hegemonious pricks are the ones that are at the forefront of the movements for reform IE Buffett who wants to make sure that his next round of bailouts are well funded so he can feast on the losers.
The problem lies in the fact that we allow the existing infrastructure to get into bed with corporations, and create a never ending revolving door that makes regulation and "new rules" nothing but a sick joke that they all laugh about at their swanky cocktail parties.
I think that reform needs to come in the form of a wrecking ball.
otherwise you are just pissing in the wind.

I think that's a pretty pessimistic view of society and the human race.
hhmmm, well we had a storm here last October that knocked out power for a week. On Day #1 there were fights at 2 gas stations I went to, shouting matches at the grocery store for batteries....it was every person for themselves and it was pretty ugly.
When man is stripped of civility the true animal shows through.
