To be fair, I don’t think that was at the debate.
I think it was at an event where he was talking about asylum seekers.
“What I would do as president — because a lot has changed — I would, in fact, make sure there is — we immediately surge to the border. All those people seeking asylum, they deserve to be heard. That’s who we are.”
But you are correct that several certainly encouraged that sentiment, including him.

In the debates he worded it sort of like this usually:
“… surge processing capacity to the border so that people seeking asylum could be heard and processed promptly.”
A lot of folks kind of read into it that if they hustled on up to the border that he would hustle the resources there to greet them, etc.
Either way, he did get what he wanted.

So, he is NOT telling them to surge the border as much as he is saying HE would surge folks down to the border to take of the folks down there awaiting asylum.
BUT it DOES send the message that they SHOULD surge and he would have them met there.
Maybe a type of ‘distinction without a difference’.
The fact is former democrat President's tried to handle immigration. Clinton and Obama addressed it time and time again. But as soon as Trump addressed it and wanted the wall ( more symbolic than functional IMO) everything changed.
It's a lesson in human behavior. No matter what Trump did right the dems HAD to do the opposite. No matter how destructive and self-defeating they had to swing that pendulum as far as they could.
Just like Hitler could have never done a good thing. That absolutist behavior on full display. How can these people function in real life?

(Jackson) had much to do with the Election, without acknowledgment or credit, of Barack Hussein Obama, a man who Jesse could not stand,” Trump wrote.
Hmmm, is that an attack??? So why does Trump think Jeese never liked Obama? Jesse Jackson made controversial comments about Barack Obama in 2008, criticizing him for "talking down to black people" and expressing a desire to "cut his nuts off," which he later apologized.

Biden wasn't senile, he was a politician changing with the wind, lying about his past, trying anything, promising anything to win an election. Saying "We should surge the border" "You should come" won him points in that debate and I'm sure created the actual SURGE we saw. It wasn't just bad timing for poor old Joe. He also promised to end fossil fuels and then later bragged about oil production when gas prices were high. Obama turned them around when they entered, Joe did not until election year.

Even Reagan said the amnesty deal was the worst mistake of his administration.

Yes. But I understand what you are saying. But saying they should ‘surge’ the border versus we should ‘surge’ to take care of them is one thing.
Then when you say if they want asylum ‘they should come’ is another thing. Because the parenthetical expression is understood to be that they will have the folks in place to process legitimate asylum cases. Which there were very, very, very few legitimate cases of those.
But he did not add on the part that should have been inferred. So, naturally they kept coming and kept being let in and it only got worse.
I am not disagreeing with your overall point — there is not doubt he was the worst ever for letting illegals in.
But I do not think that was his original intent with that statement. He was just saying they want folks that really think they have a legitimate case to come and they would have folks in place to process them in a timely manner.
But once they started coming and it became a turnstile — he rolled with it.
So, don’t get me wrong. I am not a Biden apologist. I think he is the worst President ever and his non-handling of illegals is the largest reason I say that.
It may be my biggest pet peeve.
That is only ever going to be done if Republican does it — especially Trump.
Unless, the folks that are largely affected and/or hurt by this start protesting — nothing will ever get done. But those folks are either worried about seeming to be inhumane or they have been duped by the Democrats into believing they are being righteous.
It is a serious mess and will only get far worse.

This is well known and pretty factual. There was a very good reason Obama didn’t appoint Jackson to any substantial post or anything serious. Even Obama realized Jackson had a lot of ‘baggage’. Everyone knows exactly why Jackson felt the way he did about Obama.
But I am not sure Trump should be pointing all of that out right now. But he certainly has no problem, if he ‘perceives’ a slight from someone with retuning it.
