Trump Loses Another Battle To Shield His Tax Returns From House Committee

A federal appeals court on Thursday denied disgraced former President Donald Trump’s request to reconsider a ruling that his tax returns can be disclosed to a House committee.

The appeals court refused a request to automatically withhold the release of records pending such a challenge.

The full U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit upheld an August decision of a three-judge panel that it would not shield the returns from the House Ways and Means Committee. There were no dissents noted in the order Thursday.

However, after raising several excuses, later said the public “didn’t care” about his taxes.

Democrats hailed Thursday’s ruling.
The public has a right to see the returns, said Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.), chair of the Ways and Means oversight subcommittee.

I'm working our local voting poll from 8 am to 3 pm tomorrow & don't expect any trouble at all. We live in a very heavy GOP town & have a very alert police force. We have a hurricane on the way & we just got back in town Thursday from Michigan. I expect we'll have a heavy early morning turnout & by 3 pm many will have already voted & people will be putting on the finishing touches of securing their homes.

Disturbing that voters and election workers are harassed or intimidated because election officials calling for police help is usually rare.  As US becomes increasingly polarized, l police report more threats against government officials.  Oddly, Brazil seems more democratic than the US now.  After losing election, Trump promotes big lie about stolen election which lead to his supporters attack on capital.  However Brazil's version of Trump allows for peaceful transition of power and asks his supporters to not block streets.  Democracy only survives if both losers and winners accept fair election results.  Historically, normalization of political violence is one of the marks of a republic ending.
