amid winter storm

President Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration for the state of Texas and
ordered federal assistance to supplement state and local response efforts
due to the emergency conditions resulting from a severe winter storm.

The president's action authorizes FEMA to coordinate all disaster relief efforts and
to provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures.
The declaration covers all 254 Texas counties.

Specifically, FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize, and provide at its discretion,
equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency.
Emergency protective measures for mass care and sheltering and direct federal
assistance will be provided at 75% by federal funding.

Pelosi announces plans for '9/11-type commission'
to investigate Jan 6 Capitol attack

"To protect our security, our security, our security, our next step will be to establish
an outside, independent 9/11-type Commission to 'investigate and report on the facts
and causes relating to the January 6, 2021 domestic terrorist attack upon the
United States Capitol Complex,'" Pelosi wrote.

The commission members would not be elected leaders and would be outside the government.

In a separate letter to House Democrats earlier this month, Pelosi wrote that
it is "clear that we will need to establish a 9/11-type Commission to examine and report upon
the facts, causes and security relating to the terrorist mob attack on January 6."

More than 50 million people could see temperatures dip below zero 
during the next several days, according to the Capital Weather Gang.

The Weather Service said the cold Tuesday could lead to 
"daily anomalies between 35 to 45 degrees below normal."

More than 4 million homes and businesses were without power early Tuesday in Texas,
where temperatures dipped into the single digits overnight.

threatening people's ability to heat their homes amid the record cold temperatures

Apparently their lack of electrical power is mostly because that REPUBLICAN state previously chose to be completely independent of other sources for an electrical grid, so they have no way of importing emergency power.  Surrounding states, also hit hard by the weather but they have power!

Apparently the Texas republican Governor and his state republican accomplices
are refusing to accept any blame for the current crisis in Texas. Governor Abbott
has complained that the Democrats and their "Green New Deal" is partly to blame,
even though the Abbott government had a weeks' warning before the storm hit.

Wind turbines currently provide about 7% of Texas energy consumption, and they froze.
Those same turbines DON'T freeze in Canada, Iceland, or Norway because those countries
are wise enough to winterize those machnes in case of severe cold! Texas was warned
about this years ago but refused to take action. Still it's only a loss of about 7% energy.

But Abbott hurls blame at the Democrats anyway.  Radical rightwing media seems to agree.

Other state Republicans who refused to act with 7-day advance notice of the approaching
storm, are rumored to be pointing fingers of blame for the electrical grid failure and lack
of leadership and prepration  squarely at 31 yr old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of NY;
Black Lives Matter;  the ten republicans who voted to impeach adolf trump;  Nancy Pelosi;
and of course...........Hunter Biden (just because)
