The case was brought against a doctor in Cologne who had circumcised a four-year-old Muslim boy on his parents' wishes.

As for the religious aspect, apparently Germany doesn't have freedom of religion in its Const. the way the U.S. does. I guess they're entitled to handle that how they wish.
In any case, it's pretty illogical on the one hand to say it's an assault and on the other to say that it can be performed on an infant for medical reasons. What kind of medical justification is necessary?

I don't know if it's anti-semitic, but it is illogical. What do they mean by medical reasons. Is there ever a situation or not where after a baby boy is born a circumcision is performed for specific medical reasons? I don't think so. Some think it's good medically, in general some don't. But it's not a case by case thing. So it really makes no sense.

Jewish and Muslim leaders were united on Wednesday in their condemnation of a German court's decision to in effect outlaw the circumcision of boys after a judge deemed that the religious practice amounted to bodily harm.
Representatives of the two religious communities called the ruling insensitive and discriminatory, saying it was an attack on centuries of religious tradition.
Ali Demir, chairman of the Religious Community of Islam in Germany, said: "I find the ruling adversarial to the cause of integration and discriminatory against all the parties concerned."

If someone were to come from another planet and we tried to explain to them circumcision... they would simply call it medically unnecessary genital mutilation.. similar to horrific genital mutilation practices in Africa that we are outraged by...
God created man in his own image... and some how people want to "perfect" god's work in the name of religion

Good point. There is certainly no medical justification. Those that say otherwise are just propagating their own religious beliefs. I would be interested to know if there is any correlation between ED and circumcision. I think it could certainly play a factor.
Anyways, I like the ruling. I see circumcision as a sort of forced religious indoctrination and I support any measure that weakens this system of institutionalized mind/thought control.

A widely criticized German court verdict on religious circumcision this week aims only to delay the act, not ban it, and is not directed against any faith, a jurist with a leading role in the legal debate said on Friday.

Jewish, Muslim, Catholic and Protestant leaders in Germany denounced the ruling as a serious intrusion on religious freedom. Even Germany's foreign minister spoke out, saying such faith traditions must be allowed in a tolerant modern society.
