I applaud you on your awareness of "circle jerk cycles"...
I think when we talk about things in huge generalities for the whole country with food stamps and taxes things can get blurry tho...
I think if they went with a falt tax then everyone would pay their fair share and case closed...
Also the billions of dollars that go in funding the IRS to track, audit etc... all that time, money and resource would go elsewhere...
Religious people that do tithing simply pay a percentage... this flat tax idea is not that hard understand nor implement...
I am wondering where you got the numbers on rich paid all their money and the government being broke... not saying it isnt true... just wondering where that came from...
I agree in cuts but also better efficiency and management and I am not sure that simply privatizing everything solves the problem...
But if we do cut I think there are places to start cutting before you go after food and medical care... I think if we think in terms of maslows hierarchy of needs that although some will stay on welfare no matter how much they are given, people that are not able to meet basic needs will never ascend off of welfare...
If there is a limited amount of resource they the allocation of it is more key then just going after cutting things we dont like...
I personally think that the whole unemployment thing is a joke and a huge drain on resources to stop people from landing on their feet so they will have to make changes in lifestyle... so government simply funds the continuation of poor choices in mortgage/housing, spending etc... If the unemployed went on welfare it would not only be cheaper for the government and people probably wouldnt stay there for so long because they will realize that their lifestyle is immediately not livable...
btw who you got for the superbowl?

I don't disagree with anything you've written there. What's the problem with a flat tax? Is it that the IRS wouldn't be needed any longer. I'm all for it, you want 15% of my income, fine. I know up front what I owe and it's over.
Re: SB. I got brutalized when these 2 played last time. I loved NE and a NYG homer buddy of mine sent me to Vegas with a bet (nickel ML and nickel +pts) on Giants. When I hit town on Friday night I lost from then until Sunday night. I held the bet and when I got home had to give my "friend" $3350 in addition to the $2K I lost it was a wonderful weekend.
That said I like the Giants but I'm sure the Pats will pull it off just to burn my ass (again). No action this time, I hate this game (for obvious reasons and I'm to blame for it coming up so soon again).
