the child labor laws do not need to be changed to allow this to happen. I remember when I was in school you had the option to have a period in your JR/or SR year where you could be an office aide, and get an elective credit, and a note of recommendation to put in your college packet. You would run copies and file papers. This could have been an administrative job that was created permanently but there were always students that were interested.
So you create the same for kids in maintenance. You allow them to tail a grounds keeper and work as an apprentice. Mop floors, take out the trash. Mow the lawn. The kids would be performing a great service to the school, and as long as it was mutually beneficial, not mandated, and completely voluntary I do not see a problem with it.
If it means that you let one or two of your staff go, then that is the price of progress. The saved money could go to hire new teachers, or other positions. If I know anything about schools, the savings do not go to the corporate fat cats, there is always some deficiency that needs attention.

I completely understand what your trying to say about trying to teach kids some responsibility, but this isnt the way about going about it. Kids need to be first taught at home about responsibility and chores around their own home, then from there they can branch out into the types of jobs children have always been doing like paper routes, mowing the neighbors grass etc etc, not replacing adult janitors and sending them to the unemployment line because they are being replaced by child janitors. This is wrong on so many fronts, is almost downright comical.
Kids go to school to learn in classrooms, not get jobs as janitors. If kids want to learn blue collar jobs, they can go to all the public vocational schools we have in this country that can teach them skills like that.
When are these children going to perform these jobs? During the school hours when they should be learning things in a classroom?
So we now want to send our kids to school, to get jobs as janitors so they can learn how to clean toilets, mow grass and pickup trash to learn responsibility. Dont you think those things should be taught at home by their parents and not in school. Kids should be more schooling when they go to school not less, in fact schools should shorten the summer vacations and bring them back sooner.
Like i said already, there vocational schools kids can go to if being a janitor is the thing they want to do.
School should be about learning and having some fun, not having little johnny clean up little billys shit in the toilet.
And lastly newts idea is about replacing adult workers with kids and if you cant see thru what he wants to do, then shame on you.
1.parents need to teach kids responsibilities like cutting the grass, washing the car, shoveling the snow,mopping floors and cleaning toilets at home.
2.schools need to bring back what i used to do when i was in school and that is have the kids clean up the classroom before the day is over. wipe down their desks and pickup stuff off the floors. Hell i remember doing this type of stuff in elementary school
This is how you start turning our kids attitudes around.
Only parents that would want to see something like this, are lazy deadbeat parents who want to push teaching their own kids responsibility onto somebody else. These would be the same parents who sue the school district for millions when little johnny falls down and breaks his leg while snow shoveling the sidewalks.
I talked to 2 of my friends earlier today, both of which are strong republicans and we dont see eye to eye on a lot of things, but they laughed their asses off with this topic and said newt is a complete friggin idiot to even make a suggestion like that. Also one of my friends kids even goes to a military type school where the school is pretty strict, but he still wouldnt want his kid working as a janitor at the school in order to learn responsibility.
Your the one that starts fights and comes looking for me everytime i make a post. You know we dont agree on things, so why do you keep calling me out with your posts, like the sandusky one. What do you care about my opinion. Guess you have never heard the expression its better to let sleeping dogs lie. That would be good advice.
