Don, I'm quite confident that I can handle myself. I always take the "be prepared for the worst case scenario you can think of" approach to my and my family's safety.
The point is that you guys who carry think you are brave, but in reality you're not. To me, it's just the opposite, guns make you brave.
A few months back, I man and his 7 year old son were in a line in a bank. A robber came in wearing a mask. The robber came over to the man and said give me your money, so he gave him his wallet.
As the robber hurried out the door. The man, a soldier who had just returned from Iraq said. "Son, wait here a minute" He proceeded to run out the door, tackled the guy. He took his gun away from him, got back is wallet. Just then the police showed up due to a silent alarm.
Upon return, the Son asked him what he did ? The soldier said, just had to get our money back and I turned him over to the police !
Oh, the soldier did have a secret concealed weapon.

I had forgotten that the soldier had two sons, and he was not carrying a weapon..So my point is this...just because you carry a gun it does not make you brave, it's more dangerous to you and others.

Good story ..now we find out "he was not carrying a weapon" so he did not make a choice to not use the gun he didn't have ..I see.

As the robber hurried out the door. The senior citizen who had just returned from the park from playing checkers said . "Grand-son wait here a minute" He proceeded to run out the door, screamed at the fleeing robber . " your lucky I don't have a CCW" ...Upon return, the Grand-son asked him what he did ? The senior citizen said,I knew I wouldn't catch him and get my money back so I said something to scare him..
The grand-son replied .." Gee Grandpa, if you were only packing you would still have you wallet and the money.. and guy's like him wouldn't think old people are such easy marks "

This Grandpa would have protected the children first and let the police handle it because I wasn't personally threatened.
If he had walked closer and threatened us, I would have taken the gun away from the SOB, or die trying.
Because I believe he's a coward, or he would be robbing people.

And what would YOU do ? Answer that ! Probably tremble or pull your little 22 and have a shoot out killing maybe the children or employee's or shooting yourself in the foot. LOL

so the robber walks up to you, with a gun but doesnt say give me ur wallet or else......you dont feel like ur being personally threatened my the nice robber
but if got any closer and crossed some imaginary redline you would leap into action with your 7 yr old still standing there in what could be the line of fire? Sounds reckless and actaully demonstrates hat you are a danger to yourself, your grandchild and everyone else in the bank.
We should pass a law that bans senior citizens from thinking they are protecting themselves when in real life they are a danger to everyone around them.

Lordy,, if you would read and understand the whole Bible, you would never take out one sentence of a parable and say,... Now, why are you not passive like this Don ? It shows that you do not understand the Bible. I really wish you would read it.
Jesus did not counsel non-resistance when he said to turn the other cheek, he counseled non-violence. We can be non-violent and still resist evil. He was trying to paint you a picture on how to follow him and be Christ like. Christians have a roll in resisting evil, but he clearly wants you to be peaceful.
The Bible is the message to us about the struggle between good and evil, and how we should live, and the life of the world to come.
