Stocks fell and global oil prices settled at $100 per barrel for the first time since 2022 as the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz [due to the war trump started] continued to roil markets.

 The major US stock indexes each closed lower by more than 1.5%, extending a recent bout of volatility.

Chief Justice rebukes trump!

WASHINGTON (AP) — Chief Justice John Roberts warned Tuesday
that personal criticism of federal judges is dangerous and
“it’s got to stop,” - two days after Trump called a federal judge
who ruled against the administration “wacky, nasty, crooked
and totally out of control.”

A Republican-appointed federal judge has ordered that more than 1,000 Voice of America (VOA) employees be reinstated after a Trump administration order effectively dismantled the radio network, triggering mass layoffs.

In two separate rulings made Tuesday, the US district judge Royce Lamberth said that attempts to shut down operations of the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), an independent federal agency that oversees VOA, are illegal and mandated that employees return to work by 23 March.

Lamberth further instructed the agency to create a plan for how it will return VOA back to the air.

US stocks dipped lower Wednesday afternoon as Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell delivered remarks.
The Dow was down 720 points

Stocks took a step lower as Powell discussed the Fed’s view of inflation, noting the potential for inflationary impacts from the Middle East conflict [started by trump] as well as some impacts from tariffs [also started by trump].

“The implications of events in the Middle East
for the US economy are uncertain,” Powell said.
“In the near term, higher energy prices will push
up overall inflation, but it is too soon to know
the scope and duration of the potential effects
on the economy.”

     Dow tumbles more than 750 pts
         to lowest level of the year!

US stocks closed lower Wednesday as traders grappled with hotter-than-expected inflation data, spiking oil prices and a Federal Reserve that will hold interest rates steady. 

Meanwhile, [because of trump's WAR!] global oil prices moved higher: Brent crude, the international oil benchmark, rose to $107.38 per barrel, its highest level since July 2022.

According to Washington post, pentagon seeks over $200 billion to fund Trump's illegal and unnecessary war while millions of Americans lose healthcare insurance and infrastructure nationwide is falling apart.  This is what republicans always do.  Start a war.  Increase federal debt.  Cut taxes for the rich.  Tank US economy.  But people always vote them back in when democrats cannot fix everything in 4-8 years.  Since Trump didn't ask congress to approve his war,  request for more funding should be ignored.

You put down the right, but the left is just as awful in many different areas...no need to sponsor a disdain for one party when the other party is just as bad....problem is, none of these politicians get us where we need to go....

Research released Thursday revealed that 11% of Americans are skipping meals in order to afford health care.

Republicans allowed the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits to expire at the beginning of the year, forcing Americans enrolled in ACA health care plans to pay higher premiums.

An article from KFF, an independent information organization on national health issues, said that without the enhanced premium tax credits, payments would increase by more than 75%.

A Georgia appeals court rules Fulton County can reject GOP election board picks

ATLANTA (AP) — A Georgia appeals court ruled on Friday that the state's largest county doesn't have to appoint two Republican nominees to the county election board, a decision that could tamp down GOP challenges to how elections are administered in predominantly Democratic areas.

The state Court of Appeals found that while elected leaders of Fulton County must appoint two county election board members from nominees provided by the county Republican Party, county commissioners have the freedom to reject names and ask for other choices.

US stocks closed lower Thursday: The Dow fell 469 points, or 1.01%. The S&P 500 fell 1.74% and had its worst day in two months. The Nasdaq sank 2.38% and closed in correction, down more than 10% from its peak in late October.

Gold futures were down 4%, and Treasury yields moved higher as investors sold bonds.
