anyone ever venture on that forum? these meganerds spedn all day talking about the "optimal" way to play each hand, and each of them has a differing theory that contradicts the other... just wondering if anyone on this site thinks theres any value to that kind of overanalysis

I like it too because they are thinking, a lot, but sometimes I think they overthink the game.... it isn't chess... theres an element of chacne that always comes into play

I mean I get the theory, that hands should be played and bets should be made that give the player positive EV. but fuck, there are so many possibilities, and guessing what your opponent has and figuring in all the variables (implied odds, etc) is so hairy that it seems all the talk in the world is useless.
I really like how someone will post a hand that they played up to a point like the turn, and 5 players say he shoulda folded and 5 say he shoulda gone all in.

I like to read the, news, views, and gossip forum.
But make no mistake about it, many of the people posting in the poker forums really know the game inside and out. I've picked up dozens of tips and eliminated holes in my game by reading the threads.

I have no doubt the people know the game. I also have learned a lot- specifically, now i realize how many intelligent online players are out there, and how much they analyze their game. I'm just saying the level of certainity that so many assert on their posts there is ridiculous. Very rarely do you hear people post with any amount of ambiguity, everyone has THE ANSWER and poker is such an art, with so much chance, shit can happen anytime.
I could just see half the forum breaking down Stu Ungar's all in move in the '97 WSOP as terrible. I thiunk Stu had ace 4 vs ace 8 on a board showing A 2 5.... stu went all in on the "worst" hand

That forum completely sucks. The biggest fucking immature jerkoffs on the internet. I can honestly say that if there is a forum worse than this one, 2+2 is it.
A few years ago, I created an account and posted maybe three times. That was enough. And, the moderators are complete and total dicks.

Unfortunately most of this is true.
However, like any other messageboard you gotta figure out who's knowledgable and kinda just listen to those guys. There are LOTS of WORLD-CLASS players on that site, you just gotta know who they are.
I hated the site at first but after nbeing there a few years and knowing who to listen to and who not to there is NO DOUBT it is the best, most informative poker site in the history of the world. You can rtalk strategy with WORLD-CLASS players for free. Kinda hard to get Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods to give free lessons.
The Mods are complete pricks I agree but they have to be to make sure the board doesnt end up like this place. You have to have more than juts an email address to post there, you cant just post dumb shit all over like here or they just lock the thread and its over. Its pissed me off many times but its in the best interest of the board fo sho.
If you seriously wanna improve your game there is no better place on the web to do that, if you can handle some sarcastic responses in the process to get to the golden ones. Any question you ask will get some dick responses absolutely, but you'll get some GREAT info as well
