In Vegas and am playing the BlackJack tables for the first time.  I'm interested in playing the odds, not hunches.  So, there are some basic odds I'm familiar with, but when the the dealers showing a 6 or less, do you generally stand wait for the bust,  Right?  Unless you can split something?  But over 6, you want another card?  Play aggressive works best?

Also what is your best choice when holding a 12?

    Thanx

That's good advice.  Like "Don't Go to Vegas to gamble," that's good advice too!  But, since I'm here already, I'll probably just need you to wish me luck cuz I'm playing!

Anybody else good at Blackjack out there?  I know the house always wins in the end.  There's a tourney coming up next month.

    Thanx guys.

I dont know why im doing this but here goes, a few VERY rookie tips for ya, and if Im wrong anyone feel free to correct me as I am no blackjack wizard lol :

#1) - If you have 12+ and the dealer has a 6 showing, STAND

#2) - If you have 9, 10, or 11 and the dealer has a 5 or 6 showing, DOUBLE DOWN

#3) - If you have 12-15 and the dealer has a 10 or face card showing, HIT

#4) - DONT SPLIT 10'S, EVER. Dont take one great hand (your 20) and possibly turn it into two shitty ones

Well thats about it. Like I said, anyone else feel free to correct  if Im wrong on any of those.

Obviously you know youre gonna lose and dont care and thats great, thats the "vegas experience." Maybe my few tips will save you a bit. Have fun brother, theres nothing like partying in Vegas when you dont mind blowin a few hundred!!!! I was contemplating going up there myself this weekend, keep us informed. If I go maybe I'll come tap u on the shoulder lol

Thanx for the tips.  Very helpful and consistent w/ what I've had to quickly learn on my own.  Actually, what I've done is try to memorize the Wizard of Odds blackjack grid.  Took a picture of it w/ my IPHONE so I can study it when necessary.  Not at the table obviously, but I step back and take a look when needed.  Your tips are right on with that grid.  Gotta use the surrender option.  Haven't done that yet.  Still learning.

Yes, when you come to Vegas, you gotta be ok w/ losing some dough.

Fortunately the opposite has happened. I started 3 days ago and have been up at the end of each day.  You gotta walk away when ahead, and that exactly what I've been doing.  So, so far, I'm very happy w/ the results, vacationing for free at this point.  We'll see how tomorrow shakes up as I'll leave at the end of the day or Monday morning.

    Thanx again.

I don't play the tables where the stern Asians are dealing!  Seriously, you're right.  I play the tables where the dealers care.  It sounds stupid, but those are the tables I play.

By the way guys, BJ does pay more than any other game, including the slots.  The slots pay approx. 92% of the time, but that doesn't matter as doesn't tell you the amount of the pay out.  Just that there's a pay out.  All the other table game are much more in the house's favor than BJ.

Honestly your best bet is to buy a bj strategy card for like a buck or two and just stick to basic strategy. Chance P is correct but also it will tell you to hit if you have a 16 against any non bust dealer up card (7,8,9,10,A).  Also double down with any 11 not a black jack (5,6  7,4). The card is easy to use and casinos dont care if you use it, they actually sell them in their gift shops.

Check out wizardofodds.com for nice "cheat sheets."  Also look for tables where the dealer stands on all 17s.  Also never take insurance, and never take even money when you hit blackjack and the dealer is showing an ace.

Thanx ParmyCharm.  Your post is Great.  Very helpful.  I'm done for the weekend, but you addressed three key things relevant to me.  I left no really having a plan of attack on the insurance offers or the "even money' offer.  Now I do, because I believe your correct.  And, the wizard of odds is exactly where I went and took a picture of the screen w/ my iphone so as to keep the info very handy (didn't have a printer so would have had to copy or run back to my room.  I looked at the books at the ABC store and didn't find their grid to be as helpful.  Really, thanx alot.

Also, a friend of mine told me, after I left, that some casinos downtown have "happy hour" at the BJ table where, for certain times of day, BJ pays 5-1.  Can anyone verify this?  Some tables play 6-5 which is NO BUENO, or don't hit on a soft 17, but 5-1 sounds pretty frickin' good.

Thanks EVERYONE FOR ALL COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS!! (i'll check back)

By the way, I also tried one session of Three Card Draw.  Didn't go so well.  And a try at the roulette wheel  Didn't go so well.  Sports is ultimately where it's at for me, as you make an 'intelligent" pick and hope for the best.  In cards, these games at least, it's just hope for the best.

What are your favorite table games?

My grandfather told me never hit on 16, no matter what card the dealer has up.  Why you may ask?  There is about a 5 percent chance you will hit a four or five; whereas, the dealer has a 17 percent chance of busting because of a low card on a 10 or 9, or 8.  Take the odds and stand on 16, unless you are in a zone, where every card you want is coming up for over 1/2 hr..

If you have 12 and the dealer has a 2 showing, hit the 12 or go down double on the 12.  Sounds stupid, but 65 percent of the time you will win.

As far as strategy, we have been using a system for a while and have had some big payoffs in the past.  We believe that blackjack is a game of streaks so we use that premise in our strategy.  I am sure a lot of people on here will disagree with it and call me an idiot but i really do not care.  As I said this has worked for us in the past and made for some really fun nights.

Here is how our Pull/Leave system works:

I will use $25 as the starting unit for purposes of the example.  Basically everytime you lose a bet you start back over again at $25.  After your first win at each level you pull back your winnings.  If you have already won at that level and you win again at that level, you leave your winnings out there and a new level begins. For Instance:

Start with 25...if you win, you pull 25 back into your stack and bet 25 again.  If you win again, you leave your original 25 out there plus the 25 you just won increasing your bet to 50.  This becomes your new level.  If you win that bet, making it 3 wins in a row, you pull the 50 you just won back and leave your 50 bet out there.  If you win that bet, making it 4 wins in a row, you leave the original 50 out there as well as the 50 you just won making your new level 100.  Continue like that until you lose and ofcourse once you lose, you go back to your 25 original start level.

So here is an example of a round of blackjack and how your bets would look.

    your bet-hand result
    25-win
    25-win
    50-loss
    25-loss
    25-win
    25-win
    50-win
    50-win
    100-win
    100-loss
    25-loss
    25-loss
    25-win
    25-win
    50-win
    50-win
    100-win
    100-win
    200-win
    200-loss
    25....so on and so on.

Hope thats not too confusing.  All it takes is one good shoe or string of cards to make for a very profitable night.

Betting systems don't work.  Nothing works in the long-run besides counting cards.  Also stingpsi's post was pure stupidity.

follow the cheat sheets, they give the house a 1% advantage.  start with the minimum bet and press every single bet.

so if its 10 dollars your bets will look like this:

10, 20, 40, 80, 160, 320 (id stop here if the max bet was 500 at the table cuz you cant go up to 640)

bring a lot of money so if you can double down on the 320 bet you will be able to.

if you double down on the 10 dollar bet and win only bet 20 next time (you will be banking the 10 dollars)

this isnt really a system, just common sense that you will be playing with their money essentially when you are betting big when you double down you are AT THE ADVANTAGE.

also if the shoe ends, revert back to the min bet for first hand of the shoe.

if you do win 6 hands in a row (with a bjack or double down in there somewhere) then its amazing how much you will be up, when you are losing the losses are really kept at a minimum.
