You say you don't know any way to explain it.  Cite the rule you are referring to!  Just saying "that's the way it is if you don't believe me you're clueless" isn't proof.

I have searched the NCAAF rules and can't find anything specifically referring to a defender making a play while out of bounds, presumably because it is indirectly referred to by other rules and kind of too obvious to need a specific rule.

An out-of-bounds player who becomes airborne remains out of bounds until he touches the ground in bounds without simultaneously being out of bounds. c. A player who touches a pylon is out of bounds. Held Ball Out of Bounds ARTICLE 2. A ball in player possession is out of bounds when either the ball or any part of the ball carrier touches the ground or anything else that is out of bounds, or that is on or outside a boundary line except another player or game official. Loose Ball Out of Bounds ARTICLE 3. a. A ball not in player possession, other than a kick that scores a field goal, is out of bounds when it touches the ground, a player, a game official or anything else that is out of bounds, or that is on or outside a boundary line. b. A ball that touches a pylon is out of bounds behind the goal line. c. If a live ball not in player possession crosses a boundary line and then is declared out of bounds, it is out of bounds at the crossing point.




Looks to me, that when a player forces a fumble out of bounds...the ball is dead...Or I guess I cant read

I saw that too but that refers to a loose ball.  This was not a loose ball.  I have looked and looked but can't find anything pertaining to this situation

It was a loose ball though?  He forced the fumble standing out of bounds?

Like I said, if Im wrong Im wrong...but in all my years Ive never seen a player out-of-bounds force a fumble, then recover it

The ball was in possession of the offensive player.

It's irrelevant whether he re established himself

If the defender touched the ball or caused a fumble with one foot out of bounds (which he most certainly did one of those two) it seems it would be a penalty which could be declined if the runner had retained possession and continued running.

I could be wrong about this specific rule, but you telling us we are stupid as we comb rule books for evidence while you just say "that's how it is" isn't very convincing.

Then I guess I saw the play wrong...I saw him standing out-of-bounds as he forced the fumble...

Exactly...from what I remember, and Im not going back to look...the defender was out of bounds, when he forced the fumble...but maybe not...

TopHog is never wrong, and obviously knows every single rule of every single sport

Well, I have 3 college degrees while playing 2 sports.  I think I might have a decent IQ education level.  

And, like I have mentioned.  I have NEVER seen a player standing out-of-bounds touching the football, then cause a fumble.  If that makes me have a lack of understanding on the game, then I guess youre correct.

Oh, and I had the 1st half and game over...so that play didnt matter.  Was referring to the OP who was complaining about refs fixing the game for WMU.

weird game.. Came down to play calling my MTS..  down 7 late and calling passing plays.. Have enough time to run the ball.. Put themselves in bad situation that snow balled..   another covers bloodbath..

Letgopack I think it's a mistake to try to disagree and discuss with people who deal in abstracts and character attacks while we search for truth and evidence.
