Can it hold a lot of rounds? Yes, I have 30 round mags for mine.........but I also have a handgun that holds 19+1. All that being said, none of my guns have ever gotten up on their own & fired a round by itself. By themselves, they are not killing machines. There are some evil/sick people in this world. I doubt we'll ever be able to eradicate them.  Does anyone in the general public really need a 150mph sports car?

You're wrong too. An actual AR-15 is a select fire assault rifle. It was the basis of our military M-16. However, when the media says "AR-15", what they are really talking about are civilian AR variants, which are not select fire.

One thing a 150 mph sports car and a assault rifle should have in common is the owners of both should have to pay a high insurance premium to own one.

Giffords law center has discredited idea of good guy with a gun as a solution to violence.  Overall, research shows owning a gun doesn't make a person safer or those around him.  Gun lobby has convinced people to believe guns are necessary for self defense.  But this misconception sometimes lead to deadly encounters.  Truth is that self defense use is rare.  Far more likely guns are used for suicide or homicide.  People successfully defend themselves with guns in under 1% of crimes.  No evidence concealed carry laws reduce crime.  States with higher rates of gun ownership have higher rates of gun deaths.

Mass shootings in this country have been the lone symbol, we just can't find any other country in this planet persists with such carnage time again and again, only in USA.

Assault rifles, such as AR-15, have no place in the street. These military grade assault rifles are weapons of war, similar to AK-12 which Russian force uses to kill Ukrainian civilian in mass. These assault rifles are built to kill enemy in mass quantity in the shortest of time objective. Why does this kind of mass killing weapon permits to sell on the street of this country? AR-15 have been used to shoot down seniors in Buffalo, New York and elementary children in Uvalde, Texas?

There are more, but this would be a good start. But I have no confidence whatsoever that republicans would go along with any of these proposals.

automatic delay of one month before purchase is complete and get ownership of a firearm ,and then only when the new owner shows proof from an accredited firearms training agency that the new  owner and anyone who will have access to that weapon has successfully completed the course

if owner or listed family member who will have access ever uses that gun in commission of a felony mandatory minimum 15 years prison without parole over and above other crimes or a death result

I like your recommendation a lot  peace_5  and also Dr.Strangelove's ideas.

So, we have to renew our auto registration & driver license & insurance every year.

I say we make owning a gun like owning a car.an_light

We gotta pay a license fee up front each and every year and gun insurance!   Everyone will STILL HAVE THEIR PRECIOUS 2ND AMENDMENTS RIGHTS TO OWN DEADLY WEAPONS,but it will be just like owning a car!

And to protect the public, it's going to cost.   Bigly!

I say we start with a $1,200 renewable license & insurance fee up front to the federal govt each year for handguns and single shot rifles,  and $3,600 renewable license & insurance fee up front every year to own each military style assault weapon.

And a one time DEPOSIT of $1,000, per each gun purchased (or traded).  If you ever wish to surrender your weapons to Federal authorities, you get your deposits back!

$1000 annual Fed Govt surcharge to everyone under the age of 25 per gun!

5% annual reduction in fees!  After 20 years there would be no further annual fees

Police and active military get 50% discount on personal non-service guns.

Unemployed may not purchase a gun while still unemployed.

Ownership of a gun will be a MANDATORY question on all employment applications, as well as a signed declaration by all current employees. This law will include all contract workers and all business proprietors.  If you claim you do not own a gun nor have access to one from a family member, and it is later discovered you were lying, then automatic 5 years imprisonment with no possibility of parole and of course the gun is confiscated.

Ex cons or anyone deemed a member of a domestic terrorist organization may not purchase, own, nor have possession of a gun.

I think you get the point though, which is that a handgun could be construed as an "assault weapon" in the same way a civilian AR is, merely because it's a semi-auto. Either way, it takes a human to operate it.

    @Zeus4par

The problem with that proposal is that it can be circumvented, just like all those that drive w/o a license &/or insurance. It merely penalizes the law abiding citizen.......again.

People also commit murder, rape, arson, battery and violent hate crimes despite the laws.  It doesn't mean we should rescind those laws.

great ideas !!! peace_5   of course nothing is 100% perfect but those would absolutely have a significant effect on lowering gun violence .  no question !  and that is what matters!  just make it too damn expensive for maybe 95% of americans . and yet it does not take away their 2nd amendment rights whatsoever !   dr. strangelove proposed something similar too . i luv it !  an_cheers

For the love of God, those are not AR-15s, and they do not fit the definition of assault rifles.

ok so you have some good ideas about legal guns. Now let's talk about what the far left doesn't want you to talk about. All the illegal guns. These types of numbers of shootings and deaths happen every week in large cities like Chicago. But the left want to act like if you bring this up you are racist and they act like it doesn't happen. How do you stop these from happening every single day. Also the far left vilifying police has lead to more crime and policies in these cities like stop and frisk allow for guns to flow freely.  By the way Chicago and New York have some of the strictest gun laws. Year to date ONLY 899 shootings in Chicago, 51 in the last 7 days. It usually picks up as the cold wears off. Let's hear those ideas for gun control and GO!

Did you say the same when Hillary lost and the far left, their media spent 4 years calling our president illegitimate? I doubt it.
Calling a president illegitimate is a little different, then attacking your own country to try and get the election results overturned.Did you see me attacking the capitol trying to overturn the election, when Hillary lost? Were their people trying to hang Joe Biden so he wouldnt certify the election results, when Hillary lost??The attack that trump and his cronies led against our country when he lost the election by 7 million votes, is referred to as the Jan. 6th attack.I'm having a problem remembering what was the attack that Hillary and her supporters led against our country, what was it called again?

The January 6th thing was planned by people, NOT TRUMP, for weeks before it happened. People, well people are objective, knew this election was very, let's say peculiar. I am not going to rehash the reasons why it didn't seem legitimate. The thing is though, I heard what was going on, this was the first time since election night I had turned on Fox News. I saw online there were SOME people acting up. The guy interviewed people coming out of it and he asked why they were leaving. They said 'they were their to support our president, but what some were doing, they weren't there for that.' While he didn't organize it, he being Trump, he didn't poo poo it either and seeing what those few far right idiots did, he should have. As far as Hillary, she did far worse things to the country and to the rule of law, spying on campaigns, Russian dossier etc etc. You undermining a sitting president in my opinion is just as bad as anything that was done by a small number on January 6th. Look how weak our president is right now and what's happening in Ukraine and what likely will happen in Taiwan. Look at our country falling apart and gas prices, that he's encouraging by his policies.
