Johnson, Hughes, Hilfenhaus and Beer I agree with 100%.

Smith may have a role in the lower order, but not right now.

I think Ponting should stay, but move down the order.

Australia scored 300 runs only 3 times in 10 innings.

Twice of those were in the second innings.

This has been more of a humiliation than what Australia did to England 4 years ago IMO.

Agreed. Australia were on the war-path 4 years ago with arguably one of the best XI's ever.

Steve Smith is a one day player, he has no technique or temparement for test cricket IMO. When you have someone trying to pull off the front foot you know you have a problem. Bowling wise he clearly isn't good enough to be a frontline spinner.

With Ponting I think it is a case of either he is good enough to bat at 3 or not be in the team at all. You can't plan for the future if you keep holding onto players who won't be in the team in 2 years time.

With respect to Clarke, he was Australia's best bat only 12 months ago. He deserves a long run at the captaincy and in the middle order. But if his current form continues for another 12 months than clearly one would need to reassess.

Clarke cannot play at 4. If he wasn't the captain, it would be just as hard to justify his spot as Pontings.

Also in terms of a spinner, obviously there isn't one playing in domestic cricket to be considered good enough to play test match. But selectors should just stick with one person and just give him a decent run for 12 months. Chopping and changing every couple of tests is ridiculous and just reaks of panic and no planning

I think Tim Paine should come in, even if Haddin stays as a specialist batsmen or vice-versa.

How the fuck Beer got picked in the first place is still beyond me.

In Siddle, Hilfy and Johnson we have 3 first change bowlers - you can't win test matces with that garbage.

Hauritz is the best spinner we have, particularly on Australian decks. Look at his home record.

Doherty and Beer are hardly good enough to play first class cricket let alone test cricket.
