PAY TO PLAY

Gots those PAY TO PLAY blues...

$50K Entry Cost to play in the CBI.
This year, 7 schools turned it down!!


But on the other hand, in the '12-'13 season,
NCAA had to pay a MAC team playing an ACC side
— a side that was already being groomed for a win
of the National Championship the following year
(and it did) — game film shows it: The Fix Was In.
FSU pays to play for bigboy bucks, and you don't !!
Often it was that every other positive-play for the
MAC squad NIU was whistled back, and some key
sequences had 3 flags thrown in-a-row!!!  NIU
was jobbed very obviously, and tho' they beat FSU
in every phase's every metric in that game, and
within many more sets of downs, their beating FSU
wasn't enuf to win b/c they couldn't beat the Refs.

The teams in that year's collegiate gridiron theatre
will play out similarly on the college hardwood 2019.
Florida State will square off with Buffalo who's only
Duke and North Carolina matching them in running
a fast tempo offense (Bulls are 19th in the country
in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency as per K. Pomeroy)
and combining the blistering offensive pace with a
top forty defensive efficiency; its now known that
the past seven NCAA tourneys (from 2012 to 2018)
had just one Final Four team ranked beneath Top 40
in defensive efficiency (pts let up/100 possessions)
[Kansas (47th) last year 2018] - moreover, 13 of 28
national semifinal programs had a Def-Eff ranking
well within the Top 10 for this statistic - including 8
placing in the Top 3 !!!  
Now we cement the case with quite possibly thee
key stat for this 2018-19 season: Pts./Poss., wherein
the Bulls are tied w/ Nevada for 16th place; excepting
Zags, all other teams in the WEST region are worse!

So again, we're going to see a lot of "bad calls"
as the ACC Noles with the help of the refs' calls
beat down the MAC's Bulls_ _+ !!!!

Interesting aside: dah Bears' Mack admits he wasn't close to being the best athlete whilst attending Buffalo Univ., not even the best player on the football team.    ...1st team athletes in a 2nd class (Mid-Major league).

Last 4 years, Saturday had 6 upsets, whereas Sunday saw 11 upsets of fav's,
and fav's on Sunday 6-17-1 ATS, & last 2 years 3-12-1 ATS,
and last year's Sunday favorites went just 1-7 ATS.

despite the fact that that will mean they'll
need to beat upto 3 teams that have

Mabrey's ND's best 3-pt shooter but is only 20% in Tourney,
and Baylor has 2 huge Bigs who're Miami Vice close buds,
so they help each other shine. Baylor takes this easily !!!


And to top it all off, Baylor's Center is 6'7"
and just as good as Griner who entered
the NCAA Champ Game as a #1 seed
versus N.D. as a #1 seed, like today,
and Baylor smoked the Irish !!!

The NBA took defense away, as similar new rules in the NFL did, resulting in games that are not fun to watch (much unlike the NHL).  Lack of effort, lack of any real fight put up by the players, is as apparent and predictable as the winners who will advance — nobody in their right mind gives the Pistons any chance in hell to knock off the Bucks, let alone sweep them out of the playoffs  —  and yet this is exactly what happened in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the #8-seed Isles swept out the national hockey league's best team by regular season record.  Defense in the NHL is still a very significant factor and is REAL; helmet-to-helmet hits that the NFL hates to see occur, well in the NHL those are  the least of the many types of bites taken out of the players.  This year there's been a serious fist-fight in every period of every match  —  there's never any real fight by players in the NBA or in the NFL — NBA/NFL players' rare shoving match is NOT fighting, but rather a fleeting, five-second or less, feeble display of effort.

At the start of a 5,560-km cycling competition
in 1903, there was no clear indicator to show
who was winning the competition overall; the
Leader received only a green armband that
could not be easily seen by most watching.

In 1919, the Tour de France returned following
a four-year hiatus because of World War I.
2/3's of the way thru the race, the director
of Le Tour de France, Henri Desgrange,
decided on a clearer identifier for the leader.
He came up with the idea that whoever had the
fastest overall time at a given stage of the race
would wear a yellow jersey — yellow in honor
of the sports newspaper sponsoring the race,
"L’Auto-Vélo" that was printed on yellow paper.

At 2 a.m. on 18 July 1919, Desgrange gave the
current leader, Eugène Christophe, the first
incarnation of the jersey to take with him.
But unlike its modern counterparts, this yellow
jersey was made of thick wool, and Christophe
complained that the yellow looked silly —
insisting that it made him resemble a canary.

Le maillot jaune is still used to demarcate the
race leader, with one addition: after Desgrange
died in 1940, his initials, "HD" — were included
on the waistline.

To celebrate the centenary of the yellow jersey,
Tour de France's Amaury Sports Organisation
and the race’s jersey sponsor Le Coq Sportif
have announced 20 unique yellow jerseys
to be worn during the 2019 Tour de France.

Leaving from Brussels where the 1st Stage's
Yellow Jersey will feature the Atomium, then,
the last Yellow Jersey will feature the image
of the Arc de Triomphe & Champs-Elysées,
while other Yellow Jerseys for the satges in
between the 1st & last stages will feature a
portrait of Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault,
Jacques Anquetil, Miguel Indurain, &c..

Strange but true:
Stage 11 today, and the last 7 winners at this stage
have gone on to win the overall race!!

So after the 1st Pyrenean stage, Julian Alaphilippe retained the overall lead,
with the individual time in Pau as his next challenge,
on this very day, the 100th birthday of the Yellow Jersey.

Tour de France 2019 prize money — How much do riders & teams earn in cash?

The Tour de France is one of the world's toughest endurance events; when it comes to collecting their prize money after 3 weeks riding, riders are reminded of just how tough their sport really is.
Being a professional cyclist is difficult when you consider how much footballers earn for playing, what golfers pocket from their majors, or how much tennis players win at grand slams.
While many footballers earn enough in a month to fund entire cycling teams for a season – those at UCI Continental level – the highest level in cycling — remain relatively poorly rewarded.

Novak Djokovic won the men's singles at Wimbledon & got £2.25 million for a mere 17 hrs 53 mins of court time = £125,000 an hour. In stark contrast, this year's TDF winner will earn €500,000 in prize money, or around £447,755, for cycling 3,480 kilometres (2,162 miles) over a gruelling 3-week period, a minimum of 60 hours of road-race time = £7,000 an hour (less than 6% of Novak)
But tradition dictates that the winner fork over his winnings to team-mates in recognition of their hard work, winning the fabled yellow jersey really means earning less than £1,000 per hour rode.

The total pot of prize money handed out at this year's Tour is worth €2,291,700 and while the eventual winner takes the lion's share, there are plenty of other ways of earning a few extra euros.
Winners of the green & polka dot jerseys – in the points & mountains classifications, respectively – will each win €25,000 while the white jersey of the young classification takes home €20,000.

In addition to what is handed out in Paris, the leader in general classification throughout the race also earns €500 for each day spent in the yellow jersey, while the other jerseys holders get €300.

During each stage, too, there is money on offer at the intermediate sprints (€1,500, €1,000 and €500), while the top 14 finishers in each road stage or individual time trial wins €11,000, €5,500, €2,800, €1,500, €830, €780, €730, €670, €650, €600, €540, €470, €440 and €340 respectively while those that finish 15th-20th get €300.

The first rider over each categorised climb can boost their earnings too – €800 for hors catégorie, €650 for category one, €500 for category two, €300 for category three and €200 for category four. However, the biggest bonuses in the mountains are the Souvenirs Jacques Goddet and Henri Desgrange– the prizes handed to the first rider over the summits of the col du Tourmalet (stage 14) and col de l'Iseran (stage 19) – which are worth €5,000 each.

Whoever wins the daily combativity award during each road stage gets €2,000 each day while the overall ‘super combativity’ prize winner trousers himself €20,000.
