Mac, I should have been more clear in my post. If a trade goes down, one of the 2 guys I mentioned would be the centerpiece of the deal, not both. Obviously, both players would not be packaged for Pronger. One or the other, plus some other minor goodies thrown in.
Don't think it will happen, just passing along local information. I know Perron drives coach Murray nuts, but he has very good upside, especially if he discovers that it is a must to get your shot on goal to score. He is good at cycling the puck and drawing penalties, but often times when he gets a good chance in the slot, his shot finds the glass.
To me, Pietrangelo could be an enigma. He has great instincts and skill for a d-man, but seems very timid and lacks intensity. He also needs to get stronger, but again, he is only 19 years old. Too bad he doesn't have Schenn's demeanor.
I'm still confused why the Ducks would trade Pronger when he has a year left and they are still battling for a playoff spot; unless they realize a Cup run is very unlikely this year with their current group of players. It would make more sense to deal Niedermayer who is in his walk year and would seem like a logical candidate to go back to Jersey.
Personally, I would trade both guys if I was their GM and continue to add to a younger nucleus that includes Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan, and Whitney. I would re-sign Beauchemin who is younger and cheaper than the 2 future Hall of Famers to help solidify the blue line.

The above about Pronger was repeated today by Stan Fischler (Devils broadcaster). However; the Bruins are also speaking with Billy Guerin (allegedly). Bill Guerin made a statement the other day that he was "heading East". Well, the only East of Long Island is Boston. However; the Islanders stated on Saturday that they would make an announcement about Guerin on Sunday morning. That never happened. So there might be a snag with Guerin's contract or things are back on with Pronger. Who knows. ![]()
No matter how good the source of trade rumours, very few ever happen the way everyone thinks.
You'll probably see Pronger in a Sabres uniform and Guerin in a Canadiens uniform with the way it goes ![]()

I agree 100%.
So does that even make it worth the Rangers claiming him?
Glen Sather had a 1 hour meeting with Torts last night to talk about Avery....I guess he told the coach that he would learn to love Sean just like he does....and you look at him different when he is on your team.
BUT
If Avery cant go out there and be the pain-in-the-ass-son-of-a-bitch type player....he has no value.
Your not claiming him to come in and score 20 goals down the stretch. You claiming him to piss players like Matain Brodeur off and throw them off their games....just like he did in the playoffs last season when the Rangers Beat the Devils.
I agree 100%.

That's one expensive (and possibly ineffective) pest. And the Cap strapped rangers would have to give up something for him.
Even looking at that from an obejective, unbiased point of view I still wouldn't sign Avery. Pests are a dime a dozen.
