Stanley Cup Final Game 6

The crowd here seems resigned to the home team’s likely fate, and I doubt many of them are aware of the Hurricanes’ devastating record this season when leading after two periods. That includes a perfect 8-0-0 in these playoffs.

The fans around me are growing increasingly whiny as the minutes continue to tick away…

And then a mock cheer arises after the Golden Knights finally force Bussi to make a save with 5:16 to go in the NHL season.

I can’t believe some fans are leaving with 2:21 remaining. They don’t want to witness the Cup presentation?? It’s hockey history!

I ran down to the other end of the arena with a minute left so I could video the final seconds. Then I ran back to my end for the Cup presentation which we are awaiting now.

What a night.

The Conn Smythe trophy has appeared.

I’ve always wanted to witness the presentation of the Stanley Cup, and now I’ve done it and got a great 5-minute video of Gary Bettman presenting it to Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal, who then skated with it to present it to his teammates.

The look on each player’s face as he hoists the Cup aloft - it’s as if each one is crying with joy.

I just realized I never had to pretend to be even halfway pleased by the Golden Knights scoring a goal.

Lots of family members are now on the ice.

As a longtime postgame lingerer, I like not being kicked out of an arena 15 minutes after the game ends.

All these Hurricanes players probably woke up today with a laser focus, total concentration, and a feeling of utter determination. It’s kinda funny how now that the ultimate victory has been attained, all of that steely-eyed determination will give way to wild partying and gettjng sloppy drunk.

Extra sloppy, in fact.
