Right right. It's Gary Bettman's fault. No personal responsibility or accountability. While we're at it let's blame his parents too. Or how about society? The schools?
What a joke.
This guy has an absolute beat down coming. The lack of respect in the NHL right now is at an all time low.

Lippsman,
I respect you and value your opinion and view of the game, but, I could not disagree with you more.
I think you may have a couple years on me, so I will give you a correlation that I am CERTAIN you can relate it to.
Wayne Maki-Ted Green
This wasn't a two hander...this was skating , at slow speed, and bumping him with his stick.
Could have used a glove, could have used his knee.
This was hardly a violent two hander and hard slash that were routinely used by the Billy Smiths and Ron Hextall's of yesteryear
This was an action that was meant to get a reaction and sucker the Bruins into a foolish penalty
( God only knows why, the Rangers can't score on a PP )
Avery got EXACTLY the reaction he was looking for.
Their was no penalty called for what Avery did....it was only after he got jumped from behind that the Bruins showed the replay,
and the ref then called the penalty.
The refs aren't supposed to look at the jumbo-tron to determine penalties...
When the incident first happened the ref didn't have his arm raised for what Avery did, but was going to call the penalty when
Avery got jumped from behind
WITHOUT THE REF LOOKING AT THE REPLAY ON THE JUMBOTRON,
the ref would have called an additional penalty on the Bruins.
Now to the point of not dropping the gloves....Avery fights a lot, and you know that.
The time NOT to do it though, is when his team is up 3-0 and a team is trying to sucker him into something ( Devils-Rangers) or when trailing 1-0 mid 3rd period,
and you are fighting for your playoff lives.
You mention Howe.....
Avery would love to have a guy like Howe to go one on one with...
Avery and Howe in the box...5 minutes each....
I would say that would be a GREAT trade off for the Rangers
Now let's look at your comment
"But there weren't chickenshits like Avery in the league before"
Are you telling me Barbie Clarke wasn't the biggest box in the history of the NHL?
He was ALWAYS spearing and butt-ending, and then hiding behind the likes of Dave Schultz and moose DuPont

Funny, because I bet that a shitload of Avs fans will disagree with that statement...Todd Bertuzzi anyone. The king of many sucker punches, not to mention Breaking Steve Moore's neck(an injury that ended Steve's career).
But thats right, Avery has made comments about his ex-girlfriends, tapped goalies on their helmet and waved his stick in front of another goalie face...yep that is definitely worse than ending another players career or going into stands and beating fans(not wearing pads or helmets).
Sorry Lipps, I respectfully disagree as well.

Yeah, you could say Bertuzzi also. He is scum. Yeah that works. Still wonder about the Flames picking him up.
But yeah, he probably does edge Avery out
