Not really defending avery however as an extreme hockey fan and from canada avery is really not different then the likes of ken linsman, dale hunter, claude lemieux, ulf samullson(spell), tim hunter, kevin mccelland the list can be much longer in agitators but you get my point. I think however due to this day in age where the coverage is alot more extensive things just get noticed a little more then they used to.  With that being said avery is a little puke and someone should hand his ass to him real soon, Just like the old days.   Just my opinion.

Here is Tortorella sounding like every apologist Rangers fan in here

Tortorella took issue after the game with the fact that the referees didn't come down harder on Thomas for jumping Avery. During the game's final TV timeout, Thomas had taken a knee between the circles when Avery skated by and raked the back of his head with his stick. Thomas chased after him, pushed him from behind and touched off a melee that ended up with matching minors for Avery (unsportsmanlike conduct) and Thomas (roughing).

"There has to be an extra one given to Thomas," Tortorella said, calling him "the aggressor" on the play, even though Avery - who dodged reporters after the game - could just as easily have put the Rangers shorthanded when they couldn't afford it.

Well put Jahhunter1971. Let's not forget Darcy Tucker....It pains me to even type this, but here goes, Avery has talent, he can skate and has SOME skill, BUT the way he goes about his game is unacceptable. Has somewhat to do with the coaching staff he plays under. You have to control every player on your roster from a coaching point of view, and if you cannot, well that has to fall on upstairs management for bringing back a little bitch like Avery BACK to your team. Get the drift Glen Sather????

Even Darcy Tucker wasnt as big a piece of shit as Avery...and I hated Tucker back when they were playing the Devils in 2000 n 2001

Last time I checked Lippsman is a Bruins fan, I am Red Wings fan which I thought you might be able to figure out but maybe not.

There is always battles happening in hockey but chopping a goalie in the back of the head is idiotic and not part of the game.

You want to stick up for AVERY the moron go right ahead but when he sticks someone from the HABS don't even say a word cause no one will want to hear it.

NJDEVILS, I would NOT piss on those two fuckers even if they were on fire.... ( Add in Dale Hunter) At least Scott Stevens got in a few shots for the Devils against Tucker and Steve Webb for the Isles in the 2001 playoffs. But this SOB (Avery) has NOT gotten his dick knocked in the ice YET, refuses to drop em when challenged. Stinkin Rags will NOT make the playoffs, as they will go 0-3 againts Flyers and Habs. Panthers have to come up big this afternoon. To all Rags fans making lite of Avery, Tortorrella and the bitch will not make it past the trading deadline next year......

The moron is Sather who forgot why he kicked Avery the first time. Don't blame Avery. Don Cherry said that someone will go after Ovech for his celebration, why nobody take care of Avery????? The guy play is game...

i called for tickets the other night for a devils home game and asked what time the game starts and the lady said it depends what time could you be here

Nobody fights Avery because he is a box and does not fight. Clarkson wanted to fight him and he used the excuse "it was 3-0"
3-0 with 5 minutes left any guy that is not a total punk drops his gloves.

Devils fans make up their crowd, they arent corporate seats paid for with corporate and bailout $$$.

I never get why attendance at Devils games concerns Rangers fans so much. Every argument, no matter what it is, you guys mention attendance. Do you guys own part of the team?

Good point . But you guys gotta fill up the new building more often. Enjoy the smooth ride till the playoffs. I know of another team that's gonna sweat it out .

I don't live in NJ anymore but from 86-04 when I had my season tix the only seats I could fill up were my seats. The rest I had no control over. I know their fan base , for the most part, isnt that great as far as going to the games but I never let it affect my enjoyment of the games. I just don't get the Rangers fans obsession with it. Who cares?

The Rangers fans fill up their buidling and then they boo their team 3 minutes into every game if they have a bad power play, I would argue that is almost worse.

best part about this is that these two teams could meet first round and with this latest incident compounded with the last time avery was in Boston with Dallas, it should be an interesting series, can't wait to see a guy like Lucic or Thornton tear this guy apart.

The Rangers play the Habs and Flyers at home and then go to Philly for the last game. The Panthers have it tougher 2 road games at Philly and Atlanta then home to Washington. The Rangers have the upper hand with 2 home games left.

For those that don't know I am a huge B's fan and Avery is still a box piece of shit.
 
And for anyone that said that sort of shit was part of hockey and always has been. You have no God Damn clue about the sport.  That may be what you and your young buddies that skate on a pond thinks hockey is.  But you are way wrong and have no clue about the honor and sportsmanship of the sport.  Yeah, you get a jackass once in awhile. But those guys would actuallly drop thier gloves and defend thierselves.  Not skate away everytime they was supposed to man up.
 
Let someone of done that shit when Howe, Tiger Williams or any of the Original Broad Street Bullies and thier head would of been on a platter. 
 
Hit Parent in the back of head like that and see what the hell Schultz would of done. But there weren't chickenshits like Avery in the league before.

I know the game has changed.  Well mainly in the lower leagues and college.   But it really pissed me off when I saw a couple of comments in this thread about that's how hockey has always been played.
