I think San Jose & the Kings had the highest average attendance over the past 2 years among the southern & west coast teams.

19 teams are at 95%+ home capacity, while the other 11 are 88% or less. The only ones of those 11 that aren't "new" or relocated franchises are the devils, avalanche & islanders.

I don't know what they show for attendence in Detroit lately BUT it sure didn't look full most games I watched, at least not in the "lower bowl". probably the economy there.

Nashville and Carolina actually looked like better attendence this season that the Red Wings

Detroit was down this year at 17th in home capacity, but that was still 98.5%. They were 5th in average attendance because they have one of the bigger rinks though. Pens were 1st at 107.6% (SRO) & that was without malkin & crosby for a large chunk of the season.

I know that the league cracked down back in the mid 90's when Florida fans used to throw hundreds of plastic rats on the ice when the Panthers scored a goal. used to cause undue delays in the game, because it took so damn long to pick them all up, so it became a 2 minute "unsportsmanlike" penalty for any team who's fans threw objects BUT the octopus in Detriot was kind of "grandfathered in" because it was such a long tradition AND didn't really delay the game.

it's like this tight ass Bettman is trying to turn the NHL playoffs into the fucking Masters in Golf. next thing yfans will be ejected for making any sound when a player is taking a penalty shot.

buttman as i call him. there is a big word for what they do in detroit TRADITION. when one colleague i work with, who goes there annually, shows up at the playoff game 2 in the first serise and is told at the gate. if thrown an octopus you will be charged and the team could face a 2 min penalty.i find this crazy.yet its a common occurance there.no one is suprised. one of the ice scraper guys will take tho octopus and whip it around his head, to get people pumped. i find this really bad, not respectful for one teams tradition.

The Yotes had a whopping 71.3% capacity this year for their homes games....Lowest 2nd to the Isles...An even sicker 68.5% last year

That number would jump to almost 100% for the next 3 years and well over 90%--if not higher-over the next 10 years with an easy transfer to the North. As well as bringing back some outstanding tradition

ANY Canadian mid size city would support EITHER the Coyotes or Thrashers better than Phoenix and Atlanta have.and it's NOT like they are "bum teams". BOTH are competetive

Believe it or not the Coyotes have many loyal fans. It's a hassle for most to get to the games (Glendale) and the drinking and driving laws are so strict it puts a damper on having a few brews at the game. Nikolai Khabibulin learned that the hard way. Phoenix is the 6th largest city in the country and one of the 13 that have all 4 sports. I think hockey could thrive in this market eventually. The Coyotes were a great team this year and most people couldn't even name one player. They need an owner who isn't a joke. A guy who could afford to dish out millions of dollars to attract some top tier players.

The Yotes are not going anywhere else soon.  Too much red tape and to much legal shit going on. 

Atlanta will be the team that could move.

The Yotes have been in the desert for 15 years!! and have not turned a profit.  They average $40,000,000.00 in annual losses because no one turns out for their games.  They also have one of the lowest ticket prices in the league and cannot afford to sign any talented big name players.  Cheap tickets, cheap beer, cheap food (all u can eat buffets) cheap parking, cheap or free merchandise and still the lowest turnout in the league.  Nothing will help this team because its been tried already.  The sale and or moving of this team is bound in red tape as Lipps said and this frustrates any true hockey fan especially cities that are deprived of a prof hockey team.  The residents of Glendale are being fleeced into picking up the tab on this dog or coyote with fleas and the team will be bankrupt and owner-less once again next year.
