NBC doesn't want to have a Canadian team because their is no Home Team market in Canada.  What does having the most Cups have to do with anything?

For example.  Boston vs. Philadelphia.  NBC gets big numbers in Boston and Philadelphia.  

Boston vs. Montreal.  NBC gets big numbers in Boston and nothing in Montreal.

the game draws in more casual viewers than usual
 
u think they will be more excited with another 1-0 borefest between the bruins and rangers? although i guess they could find avery's tactics amusing
 
or would they prefer a game like yesterday between two huge rivals?
 
if anything i hope it would be bruins and flyers. it would add a physical element that we have not seen in the past 2 winter classics.

I know this has been discussed a few times in the forum,but i was talking about it with some friends last night so i felt like venting again.


Vic I really think the reason people still have trouble with this is they are TOO YOUNG to remember when BOTH TEAMS got a point for a tie anyway... no offence at all my friend but I really don't see the reason for outrage - they PLAY OT for the 2nd point, right?

I remember no OT and maybe we should just fn go back to that to stop all the whining

Happycap- a tie means that the score is tied. So a share of the points is warranted

When a team has 1 goal less than the other team, that is supposed to be a loss and no points are deserved.

Devils - how old are you?  My point is simple:  in the past each team got a point for a tie and the game ended.  If you are over 30 you remember this.  If you aren't that's fine you may not.  I don't give a shit what system they come up with.  My point is ninety fn years ago the Habs still would have made the playoffs that way.  Capiche?

I'm getting tired of all the hand wringing and gnashing of teeth on this issue - accept it - the league will never go back to the old system.  Perhaps we need 3 points for a win... I don't know.  Just remember that a tie was always worth one point before - if you remember the whole point of OT was to award and EXTRA one, not to take one away from the one of the teams.

Okay, I'm done venting lol.  NO offence intended to anyone, I guess I just feel like this discussion is kind of futile if the League wants OT to be a fixture anyway

make it a .5 of a point pick up for an OT loss - for your oppponent to not be good enough to beat you in regulation deserves to be acknowledged somehow.

they would not have tied since they lost so that means NO points and habs dont clinch

I hate the new system as much as the next guy believe me.  I just want to keep the facts straight about hockey history as it pertains to making the playoffs when receiving 1 point for making it through 60 minutes tied.  When 5 OT was first brought in they never wanted to take away the 1 point from either team and they made that very clear at the time

Im 37, I remember when they had ties, I remember when they didn't have OT but they do have OT now and you shouldn't get anything for just getting to OT

I think we all hate it.

2nd in the East and 3rd in the West (and home ice) is being decided by this nonsense and its annoying

Last year someone in here (sorry I forget who) had a great writeup of teams records in 60 minutes of hockey or without the shootouts if there were still ties. It made some sort of difference

So this is your 1st post on this site and this is what you come up with.

If you don't have a big American fan base as is now. You think that this will grow the game more cause you have two American teams are playing on New Years Day. This will not do it.

More people in Canada watch that game then American people do. Fuck more Americans watch Nascar before Hockey.

I am not including the Die Hard American Hockey fans on this site.

I know NBC will not show Canadian teams. I really don't care if they don't. Last time I checked we have 6 Canadian teams in the League, not just American teams.

its not a traditional rivalry or anything but even a Boston-Philly game would make for some good TV

Maybe they do Washington because of Ovechkin

I think outdoors at Fenway is enough to get people to watch it, I dont think the opponent matters

Happy,i was fine with the way it used to be and i wish it could go back to it.Either get rid of the OT completely or play a 10 minute 4 on 4.....winner gets 2 ,loser gets 0 and if it's tied so be it.At least the standings won't look like you need a college diploma to understand either.

Vic, Devils, isn't sad that we are all on the same page and yet there's absolutely nothing any of us can do about it...?

We shouldn't even have to be pointing this out to the League but they are blind and deaf to it anyway so the frustration just builds and builds.

I'm glad you guys didn't take my original responses the wrong way as they were never meant to be critical of what had been said previously in the thread, just to point out that teams always got a point for a tie after 60
