This is a mismatch. Carolina is tougher, faster and more skilled up and down the lineup. Has a futures on Montreal but that’s likely done for. Carolina also plays on the edge of rough/dirty but we know NHL referees have - as always - been instructed not to call too many penalties on US based teams. Head shot to Caufield uncalled. A few late hits by the Hurricanes uncalled. Carolina is already the better team so it’s damn near impossible for the Canadiens to beat them with the refs on their side. This series was over before it started due to that alone.

If the Canes were an elite team they'd have flattened the Habs in game 2 in what was a complete down spot for the Canadian team. But instead they were taken to OT despite their opponent's flat performance (Habs had 12 total shots on goal, compared to game 1's 22). Now in this game they've led twice but cannot hold a lead yet again. Canes have a soft underbelly that the Panthers ruthlessly exposed last season, and the Rangers the year before. Nothing's changed.
