So if the game was fixed for the under is that way Green Bay’s kicker missed the PAT in the first quarter? Man…they must be really good at scripting these games if they had it set up from the first XP attempt!
Why would they ever go for 2 there?
Chances of making 2 extra point attempts is still higher than 2 two point conversion attempts to try to tie the game. Just a good excuse to pointshave ![]()

Even after sitting on this for an hr thinking of every possible scenario on what the mind set was to go for 2 in that situation the only thing I can come up with that makes sense is the kicker had to be in the locker room taking a shit
and wasn't available to kick. That's the only logical answer as to why you would go for 2 in that situation.

It is NOT about the chances of making them. It is ABOUT the expected points earned from each scenario based on the chances of making them.
It is all about the positive EV longterm.
I understand the math advantage. I just do not agree with doing it as often as they do it now in every situation possible.
Maybe last night was the correct time to do it based on the game flow, time left in the game, and being on the road.
But I just think there are so few chances of these to really work out in your favor in NFL, unlike MLB where the season's chances are more plentiful.
So, I understand the analytics.
But I agree with Aikman -- analytics will get a coach fired.

@Raiders22
..Every game and situation dictates when two go for 2...Last night perfect example..Caution the following may be above the pay grade of some of the above tin foil hat replies....ie "to keep it under".....1) It was a short week for a already injured secondary for Carolina plus in game injuries...2)Carolina had no interest in playing another quarter vs a team who outplayed them all game.... 3) Gain 4 yds or beat gb in OT ...hmm.. better chance 4 yds or whole OT...4) Wait even if we fail we get ANOTHER bite at the apple to now tie..5) Injured outplayed dog in OT or 4 yds with 2nd roll in play... IMO fire the coach if he playf for OT in this case...![]()

@ArtSchlichterJr
Yessir. Even without the math it can make sense just on that basis you explained very well.
The issue I have with any of the analytics is twofold:
NOT enough chances throughout the season to make it work out positively every year.
NOT doing it every single time instead of picking and choosing because this also limits the likelihood of it coming out positive.
