If you read Peyton Mannings lips during the play , he clearly says
"Hit me you fuckers, my man Reggie Wayne is gonna catch this pass. Oh shit, what is Tracy Porter doing? My film studies show that he would be playing in more of a prevent defense. Damn, I guess the Saints are this good"

This is a great post, all we hear about is Mannings ability to read defenses, why didn't he read Porter , it was the pressure. It is sad how they are blaming Wayne, there are players covered on every play that is why you check to another read. Manning locked on from the snap, it was an easy corner read because the end zone camera shows Mannning staring Wayne down, it was not going to be a as quick on grass as it is on turf. Collie was open and one step forward and the pressure from the end was negated.
I coach football successfully( 16 to 18 year olds), even if my kid ran a route that wasn't great, i would expect my QB to read the corner, Corners jump plays all the time, QB's don't throw it, that simple.
The Media is sucking Manning off. I don't hate the media for trying to take the blame off Manning, I blame them for atacking a reciever who quite simply had perfect coverage.
I don't like that route they ran it at the goal line about three times in the last three games, on each play nobody jumped it. this time porter read , great play by the CB , horrible read by the QB.

Sammy is 100% right on this one. I'm sorry, but anyone who disagrees needs to learn more about the game of football. He has ALWAYS had happy feet, that has not changed. But he has improved in other areas and it is easy to over look/forget about his past tendencies (See Farve). I respect the hell out of what Manning has done, and is why I took the points and not the ML. I had a very strong feeling the Saints were going to win but I couldn't bet against Manning entirely. That said, you have to have an EDGE to win a championship. Bob Sander's was their edge a few years ago. Manning is dull and sucks the life out of his team. He has all the potential to be the greatest QB ever, but a .500 record in the playoffs does not equal greatness.
Now before the haters come out, I do not think Manning lost this game. His team did. The Saints have a better TEAM and a better COACH!

Carj, you're absolutely correct. Two plays before, the Colts ran almost an identical play, slant to Wayne, tackle by Porter. Manning went to the well, one too many times. Nothing new, that's the game of football people. Porter didn't want to be fooled twice, he stepped up and made a huge play. Also, anyone who has watched Manning, knows he loves the quick slant when blitzed. Football is not as complicated as some people make it out to be.

I dont understand the point of this thread. Of course he threw it to avoid getting hit by blitzers. That's what a QB is supposed to do. Get rid of it quick to a short receiver in man coverage. It was a miss communication by Manning and Wayne who are on the same page 99% of the time, just so happens the 1% was at the worst possible time. Bad route, bad throw, good play by Porter who, if you didnt realize, gets paid too.

The problem is Wayne is getting eaten alive by the media, which is total BS. Manning should man up and say I shouldn't have thrown that pass like Farve admited , nobody defends Farve by saying that Rice should have comeback towards the Qb which is a fact instead of drifting deeper. The latest manning defense is that the reciever should never let the CB come between them, why doesn't Farve get that defense? Farve shouldn't because you always have to know where the DB and coverage is. Farve blew a chance at a 50+ yard FG, Manning threw away the game. He gets all the credit, he get the blame. The Media picks their favorites.

Lol, Taking peyton's throw a little personally are we? Maybe send Indy an email instead...the offensive line, coach, specialty team,hank basket, possibly his Gf (or wife or both), Garcon and Reggie Wayne, blame Collie for being open and for being covered by Vilma when they had to kick the Fg, or Stover for missing a Fg that should have been closer because Clark was open.
But please don't blame Manning for throwing into perfect coverage by Porter , he is not accepting blame. Forward Blame letters to the rest of the team.

but it is nearly impossible for that play to be Manning's fault....... there are two responsibilities that come before anything that is Manning's responsibility......... 1) coaches have to call the right play at the right time....... 2) Wayne has to sell the rout hard enough to keep himself between the defender and the ball.......
none of that is Manning's job........ you know what Manning's job is on that play? to throw it as fast as possible to a spot, before his WR has even made his cut, and therefore before the WR is open.......
trust! that is what that play is about....... it is not possible for that play to fall squarely on Manning's shoulders, because it is the design of that play that the ball leaves his hands before any post-snap read is possible........
