What will the Giants do when sf takes away the deep passing game?

I forgot Giants dont throw underneath either and dont have a Tight end

Yeah new teams, new rosters, coaches, gameplans and all.

What I did notice in the previous matchup is both teams had a very hard time running the ball.  I see that San Fran only ran it 20 times and some where by Alex Smith.  I see a much different game plan here.  I expect them to force the run.

I see that this game was a field goal game up until the 4th qtr.

I see the Giants dominated time of possesion by 10 minutes.  That is f'ing crazy!  Because they LOST!!!

I see San Fran won the turn over battle.

I see BOTH teams where not 100%

I see the longest play of the game was by the G-men for 36 yards.

I see the Giants had 2 sacks and Niners 1

I see that Akers had a long of 52 yards and Tynes 25

I see Giants went 1/4 for 25% in red zone efficiency  Niners 1/3 for 33%

What I see is a UNDER play.  Thank you and Good Luck

So i guess Nicks and Manningham suck then. I am pretty sure they would be up high on the depth chart on the Saints. 

I cant believe SF  is even favored in this game.  anyone who doesnt think Eli can pass at will against this team is borderline retarded.   The guy proved himself to be a Top 5 QB and the best 4th Quarter QB in the NFL.  Eli had  26 plays of at least 30 yard.   The SF defense is very good, but we're not talking about the 85 Bears here.

Also, does anyone really think Alex smith is a top QB?  The Giants front 4 is practically unstoppable.  JPP is a beast, Tuck is pretty healthy, and Osi is a terror.  Does anyone realize how many forced fumbles this guy has.?       Umenyiora has 22.5 sacks and 12 forced fumbles in his last 24 games, including playoffs, and has five career postseason sacks. He burst through a double-team block  Sunday and turned in a critical strip sack of Rodgers.   Giants all the way in this one!!

Jwarner then how did the Giants only score 10 lousy points vs Phillys and Wash defense?So to me tgat tells me there is at least a possibilty that SF defense can stop Eli

49ers will not have to blitz Eli.  That is what has made their defense so successful.

t's like I said over and over again, Eli's going to be able to pass.  SF is going to be able to run. 

SF is a run-stop team, not a pass-stop team.  They have never been a pass-stop team, so I don't know where this sh!t is coming from.

The Steelers can shut down the pass.  The Ravens.  The Browns.

Every good QB has passed easily vs this niner secondary. even gimpy Ben had 300. Giants will have to pass and will with ease, cause they will try to run but will have trouble like everyone else.

i never said the 49ers shut down the saints passing game.  YOU said the niners shut down the saints running game & destroyed the niners pass defense b/c drew brees threw for 462 yards.  all i am saying is that there was no run game to shut down & 462 yards is not that impressive given the overall view of the game.  you are making an argument that b/c drew brees can throw for 462 yards against the 49ers that eli will have success throwing as well.  eli will not throw the ball 60+ times & the giants don't have the same offensive system as the saints.  the 49ers will game plan as needed against the giants just as they did against the saints.

if this logic is what has led you to take the giants, then so be it.  i just think your rationale is flawed b/c you're looking at a singular stat that seems eye popping.

Eli is an elite QB... you don't take away the passing game against an elite QB... you hope to contain it, at best... great QBs find a way to get it going... and he will...

for anybody who hasn't figured this out yet... the Giants have the best WR corps in the entire NFL... and it's not really that close...

Correct.  The 9ers got destroyed in the passing game.  If there were not 5 turnovers, the Saints could have pressed for the record # of pass yards in a playoff game

You are correct they cant take away the passing game they can just try to contain it.I would think SF game plan  is gonna try to keep Eli to his numbers in the Wash and Philly where the Giant offense was held to 10 pts.Keep Eli around 250-300 yds to win.

Let me clear this right up. I never said take away the passing or shutdown the pass game. Obviously there is no team in the nfl that could do that and if they could they would be the sb champs.

Now what I said was the DEEP passing game and maybe take away was the wrong word so I will restate and say severly limit the deep passing game.

The point is that the giants win their games offensively in the arms of Eli and the deep ball to the receivers. I'm talking about the big play. not short to medium passes, no one can shut that down on any team. But you can play a type of defense focusing on taking out the deep pass game similar to what the 9's did against the saints. Yes Brees had 462 yards passing because there were many attempts but if you notice 9's didn't give up the long bombs all day there were just 2 long pass plays towards the end of the game. Saints are experts at the deep ball and if you watched them play this year you would know that.

I just think that the key to beating the Giants is concentrated on limiting the big pass plays because that is a big reason they have been so successful on offense. Teams always get burned deep by hicks or cruz.

The bottom line is I think if 9's come in with that strategy as they did against the saints (and they were able to pretty much take away the deep passing game if you go back and look). They will win this game in the trenches. That I believe is a major key to them coming out ahead.

Its so funny because everyone was saying the same shit about Eli as they were about Brees last week. Eli this Eli that, Brees is far more better than Eli. Saints have a better WR core and they have a much better TE, shit Giants don't have a TE at all. Saints had the 6th best rushing offense. How did all these comparisons work last week?
