I  have dicussed and documented the shift that has taken place with the AFC no longer dominating the NFC conference , be it during the regular season or in the Super Bowl
We all saw the NYG take down an undefeated New England Patriots team two years ago , and last year , a lowly 9-7 team from the NFC West was a miracle catch away from winning yet another SB against the tough Pittsburgh Steelers

The homedog data to me is very interesting as I assumed that this was a good angle based on history...
 
But the leauge changes and perhaps with less parity we are looking at a league where it is best that you just bet on the better team regardless of location...
 
I also wonder if early season numbers would indicate less of an effect on the home field advantage...  and then when weather becomes more of  a factor in travel and game day if you would see and increase in effect...

I believe you are correct in your statement regarding parity in the league .
Home Dogs historically have hit at over 50 % , but with the recent trend going back 2+ years , it would be interesting to see where it stands ...
 
 Regardless , the reality is that more information is now available to the general public , and oddsmakers are slower to react as their basis for setting the lines may be outdated .
It wasn't long ago that it was the year of the "favorite"
The way some NFL teams are playing a case could be made that the league is suffering from over-expansion ...and some of these teams should have been demoted to a lower league ( such as is used for soccer leagues in some countries ...i.e. Argentina )
 
But meanwhile , we see teams winning and losing 16 games in one season for the first time .
Last year, we saw Favorites hitting at an amazingly high rate in primetime games , and the overs practically run the table on MNF .
Every thanksgiving day , it seems faorites feast on the weaker teams , and if it wasn't for Double digit dogs in general struggle mightily last year , it could have gotten pretty ugly for the books in general .
Again , favorites are getting off the gate fast , so we'll see how the oddsmakers respond .
But, undoubtedly, the lines will get tighter and what happened last year won't give teams the cushion in line setting anymore if they continue to struggle .

It wasn't long ago that it was the year of the "favorite"
The way some NFL teams are playing a case could be made that the league is suffering from over-expansion ...and some of these teams should have been demoted to a lower league ( such as is used for soccer leagues in some countries ...i.e. Argentina )
 
But meanwhile , we see teams winning and losing 16 games in one season for the first time .
Last year, we saw Favorites hitting at an amazingly high rate in primetime games , and the overs practically run the table on MNF .
Every thanksgiving day , it seems faorites feast on the weaker teams , and if it wasn't for Double digit dogs in general struggle mightily last year , it could have gotten pretty ugly for the books in general .
Again , favorites are getting off the gate fast , so we'll see how the oddsmakers respond .
But, undoubtedly, the lines will get tighter and what happened last year won't give teams the cushion in line setting anymore if they continue to struggle .
Tennessee, New England is an example
 


I think NE's undefeated season is a sign of the times also with less parity and AFC beating up on NFC ( a trend you have followed)...

Its funny that when I brought up the idea of dropping the worst teams in the league like soccer, no one took it seriously...
